So, for around two years, I've been working as a sort of assistant/tutor to an autistic kid in a really nice school while I sorted everything I needed to get my teaching certification. This was going to be my last year at said school, since I do have my certification and it's time for me to move on, get a better job; an actual teaching job.

But it turns out that as they keep expanding this school (It was an elementary school up to 4th grade, but every year, they'll expand it to another grade) they now need a science teacher for next year.

As soon as I found out about it, I quickly asked around some of the teachers, which encourage me to apply and even put a good word for me (I work in the school, but not for the school) and last week, the director called me to her office to tell me she would interview me this week. "We are looking for male teachers. Impress me."

No pressure, right? I'm really excited about this because this is not an ordinary school. It counts with the support of the parents, the classrooms are well equipped and kids are mostly better behaved than the average kid. Oh, and it's a bilingual school. One of the plus is that I'll be able to keep an eye on the kid I assisted. His parents will need to get a new assistant, and I'm the one who really knows how to work with him so I think I'll be able to provide support until the new assistant is picked (the school doesn't pick him, the Department of Education does, and they do a pretty slow job)

I'm feeling confident about getting this position, while also knowing that. well, I could simply not get it, but I've been told they have no more candidates so far which is good for me. Right?

Anyway, getting this job will obviously mean I will be more busy, and that's something I'm looking forward too. I've kind of been in a state of depression since the end of the year and this will surely keep my mind on other things.

I guess on of the reasons I'm bringing this up to the forums is that I'm simply excited about it and want to share the news with someone. This will sound pathetic, but you could say I no longer have any friends offline. (Lost them all in a single swoop, and it has to do with my current... state. Long story)

Thanks. The interview was changed to today. I think I did pretty well. The science position was already taken, but they have assistant teacher which suits me just fine for the time being, while I gather actual teaching experience. (I'd still earn more than double my current salary so...) They'll tell me next week if I get the position or not

I've never feel too sure about lucky rabbit feet. I don't thinl the rabbit feels lucky at all after losing it!

I got a call from the tutor of the kid I used to assist. Someone from the school told the kids mother that she should look for a new special aid assistant for his child since it seems they will give me the opportunity to work for them.
That can only mean one of two things

1. I will get the job, but they haven't contacted me yet.
2. It was a big misunderstanding. After all, I told the staff at the school that I wasn't going to come back as the kid's assistant. Maybe they were just reminding them that I wasn't going to come back so they should get a new one. This is something I actually told them countless times, but they wanted to wait until I had officially a new job before they started searching.

I have a feeling it's number one. I also have a feeling that one way or another, I'll find out next week. (Mainly because I will be calling to check if they don't contact me next week!)

I got the job! I sign contract on August! This is like my dream job at the moment so I'm VERY excited!

I was worried since I haven't gotten a call, and I was unsure if I was supposed to get the call before July (since they took the whole month off) so I contacted one of teachers (who I know she has useful, inside info) to ask her what were the chances of me getting the job. She told me that I was already in the roster, but (as I imagined) they were all on vacations. All the teachers will sign contract on August.

It was also good to hear that a woman who did her internship in this school (she was in the same classroom as I was) also got a job, so it's almost like last year's team will remain, even if it's in different classrooms this time.

I have a feeling that I got this job mainly because of the help of some influential teachers, but I know I'm more than apt for the job, so it doesn't bother me.

Knowing folks and having some help isn't a bad thing. If you've got the skills, people will step up and speak for you when the time comes. Connections are nice, though they can at times be used in the wrong ways.

Congrats, dude. That's awesome you're able to not only find a job, but find one that you actually want to do.

So.. it's the second week of August.

Some of you already knew that I haven't gotten the job as I thought but was still a potential candidate. The principal fought hard to get me (and everyone was confident I would) but in the end, it was decided that they can't employ me until next year.

I still have the option to resume my old position, which I'll probably do.
Meanwhile, I'll have to find time to search and apply to some private schools, since I haven't gotten an offer from the Dept. of Education either.

But it's not so bad. I mean... most of my hopes and plans were based on me getting this job, but it's not the only major disappointment I have gotten during the past 8 months (It's the third, actually) so now I think I'm just emotionally numb.
