I needed a new work computer. Less than a year ago (perhaps a year in August) I bought a MacBook Pro (Intel Core i7 2.66 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD), but it's showing its age and 4 GB of RAM is nowhere near enough.

So I decided to bite the bullet and get one of those new 27" iMacs (3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD) as a little birthday present to myself.

While configuring the system I notice something peculiar - they had a section that offered accessories, and one of those sub-sections had Pegasus RAID Enclosures.

After doing some research, I knew I had to get one of those. I've been looking for a good RAID solution for Mac (I work with a lot of big files with multiple versions) and this Pegasus R6 with Thunderbolt technology was perhaps the most awesome thing I've seen in consumer computing for a good long while.

10 Gbps bi-directional data transfer speeds (well more than twice as fast as USB 3.0). 12 terabyte capacity. RAID 5.

My knees grew weak (or they would have if I were standing...).

It's on the way now, will all be here in a week.

I can't wait to try out this new Thunderbolt technology and see if it lives up to all the hype. Something I'm less excited about is paying for it all. But I'll worry about that when the bill comes.
