The day the world turned upside down

It was supposed to be a normal morning, Francisco thought. How come everything went exactly not like I planned? Francisco was a very organized person. He got out of bed every day at 5: 37 am after stretching for 7 minutes. By 5:48 he has already brushed his teeth and was getting ready for a shower. By 6:15 am, he was already dressed and getting into his car. His days were perfectly planned; he even had alternate plans in case of heavy traffic, fire, earthquake, theft, floods, tornadoes or volcanic eruptions. However, no plan would have prepared for what he had to face that day: As soon as he opened the door of his house, with suitcase in hand, he noticed the world was upside down.

At first glance, everything seemed normal, but Francisco was completely sure that he could look at the sky by looking down and he that he could look at the ground by looking up. This was a serious problem, since nothing could guarantee that he won’t fall to the sky as soon as he put a foot out of his house. In order to form a plan, he needed to know more about the peculiarities of this inconvenience. However, he froze again as he turned around to turn on the TV Wasn’t he supposed to be walking on the roof if the world was upside down? What if he fell to the roof on his next step? Francisco started sweating; if he killed himself on the roof y would be unable to get to work and that was unacceptable. With a lot of effort, he managed to stand on his own hands; at least that way if he fell while walking, it wouldn’t be head first. Then he approached a hallway and tried to climb down the floor and to the roof as he did when he was a kid, but for some reason, he kept sliding up to the floor.

Why couldn’t it be a volcanic eruption? thought Francisco. I was ready for that! It was 8:23 am and he was still at home. Despairing and dizzy (straightening himself up on his hands had that effect, he started to cry. “All this work and excessive plans will ne day drive you mad” his coworkers said yesterday. They had probably fallen down the sky. Who could be prepared for THAT? Nobody.

Then he laughed. Madness! I have gone mad! The laugher, and tears continued. I can deal with that! Francisco grabbed his suitcase, thinking on how funny this will all sound on the evening, and opened the door once again. He was never able to put the second foot on the ground outside his home. As soon as he put the first one, he fell into the deep, deep sky. Nobody ever saw him again. His disappearance, however, caused a big commotion, and lots of rumors spread about the events. Among the craziest things mentioned is that many people claim they have seen a black suitcase orbiting round the planet.

I think it's time for me to accept that I simply have to keep my writing to myself.

It was weird. I was looking for some truth or wisdom this morning at the Mag to tell me what the universe is sending me and then your bump led me to this. I thought it was really cool, different, and welcome and it just seems to fit in with me this morning.

I was kind of expecting simply "It was weird"

Originally, this was supposed to reflect my actual mood lately, but I just can't write anything serious. XD

The Pond

It was a big day for the boy. He planned to swim across the pond, and he was very excited about it. Just getting the confidence to try it has been an adventure, but an adventure long completed; he was going to swim across the pond and he was going to make it.

However, there was someone who thought otherwise. The boy was already inside the pond when his father ordered him to swim back.

“But why, father?” he asked. “I have been practicing a lot, and I know I can do it! I sought counsel with very good swimmers, and they have all given me great advices. Thanks to them, now I know I can swim across the pond, and even have some tips to do it safely.”

“You are my son, and I know what’s best for you. I don’t know those people you talked with, and they don’t know you as well as I do. You will drown if you keep swimming.”

“It seems you don’t know me as well as you think father. And it’s too late, I’m already in the water. I know I can make it. You might not know those that counseled me but-“ his father raised a hand as he talked, motioning the boy to stop.

“I don’t give a damn about what they say! You are too weak! If you keep swimming you will surely drown, and I will NOT help you.”

“Father, if you believe I can’t do it on my own, stay. Watch me. Don’t let me drown. If you worry so much about me, help me make it, and don’t doom me in advance!”

“No! Either you do things as I say and stay with me, or do whatever you want but without me in your life.” It is your choice.

“I’m sorry father. I’m already in the water. If you believed I wasn’t ready, you should have told me before I leapt into the pond. I love you father, and I want to show you that I can do this! Don’t abandon me like this!”

“I’m not abandoning you. You abandoned me by not following my advice. Keep swimming, but I will not be there for you unless you admit that you were wrong and I was right.”

“Perhaps we are both to blame, father? Let’s work it out… but please! Stay by my side!”

“You are the only culprit here. Farewell, son…”

Shortly after the man left, the boy lost his will to keep swimming. He just stayed there floating. Many of his friends saw him there, but he was known now as the kid who abandoned his family to follow his own fancies, and nobody wanted to be associated with such a person. The father, convinced that a son was only worth his time if he obeyed every word of his, never came back for him. Soon the pond was as if nobody ever attempted to cross it. None of the people that knew the boy were really sure what happened to him. Maybe he did manage to swim to the other side, and continued with his life. Maybe he never recovered his will to swim and drowned. Some say he went back to his father to show him he did it, but was still considered unworthy of being considered part of the family. But the murmurs didn’t last long, and life went on as if the boy never existed.
