Let's say your kids are between 8-10 years old. What movies do you believe you have an obligation to show them at that age?

Off the top of my head...

Ghostbusters
Back to the Future trilogy
Robocop
Terminator 2
Commando
Aladdin
The Little Mermaid
The Lion King
The Princess and the Frog
Toy Story 1-3
Wall-E
The Incredibles
The Brave Little Toaster (to f*ck with them)
Hook
Matilda
Thunder in Paraside (because only my sister and I have this bond)
The Santa Clause
Shrek 1 only
Goldeneye (Because the first Bond he/she knows is gonna be a GOOD one, dammit.)
Indiana Jones 1 and 3
Star Wars trilogy
Cool Runnings
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
The Mask
Ace Ventura 1 and 2

I know I've forgotten a lot of stuff, but this is to start it off.

I'm really not big on movies... but I guess these are some that I think would be appropriate.

  • Star Wars IV through VI (It's a shame they never made prequels)
  • Jurassic Park (they never made any sequels, sadly)

And that's it. They were the only movies ever made that are worth watching. (j/k, but only barely)

Off topic:
That said, when I was that age, I watched all kinds of R-rated movies. Blood, gore, violence, etc. I think it really desensitized me to that sort of thing. Not sure if that's good or bad. It definitely comes in handy at times.

But, if I ever have a child, and they have access to the Internet, then 4chan (or its future equivalent) will do a pretty good job of desensitizing them for me. And take care of that uncomfortable sex talk. Kill two birds with one stone right there.

I think that parenting-by-Internet is the wave of the future. R-rated movies and heart-to-heart talks are so last century.

Pretty much all the movies you guys said, but if I had to pick just a few I would make sure they watched:

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (My favorite movie ever)
The Nightmare Before Christmas (Another one of my favorite movies)
Star Wars Episodes IV-VI
Robocop
Terminator series
The Matrix (Atleast the first one)
Jurassic Park and The Lost World.
