It begins this Friday (June 11) with host South Africa playing Mexico at 10 AM Eastern on ESPN.

The United States play against England on Saturday (June 12) at 2:30 PM Eastern on ABC.

The three teams representing our region (well at least the region most of us come from) are the USA, Mexico, and Honduras.

The USA/England game is one of the most anticipated games of the tournament. Don't miss it.

Also check out other teams from throughout the world besides the USA. It is set to be a great tournament with a lot of great matches.

If you are not already a fan of soccer, there is something about this tournament that captures you, especially when you open your mind and your spirit to the game and the passion of the world.

Just keep in mind that the times I listed should be correct for kickoff but they are advertised at earlier times on TV and the TV guides. Those might be the pregame times (worth watching to get familiar). But obviously you should confirm these times if you are interested in watching these games.

Actually the Netherlands is the team I predicted before the start of the Cup to win it all. Let's hope.

we heard that some media in america was telling everyone that the england v usa game was one of the most anticipated like they meant in the world or something? which we found dead funny but figured it might be a bit like mock the week when 3.5million was the answer and they said 'how many goals did the north korean media tell the people they scored in this world cup.'

england v germany though was massively anticipated, like in real life, and everyone in england thought they were going to win in. and nobody in germany anticipated it because they knew that they were going to really. so much for the strong start makes a bad finish theory. it was dire in the end anyway. but at least we're not having a government investigation into why like france is. pfft.

or crying over it like italy. i can see ghana crying, that's ok cus ghana tried really hard and lost really hard, not got beat, just lost it. and also italians cry loads in football anyway *sigh* drama. but england didn't cry prolly cus of all the scousers in the england squad, they're dead 'ard ;)

The only thing I've followed about the cup this year has been when I was forced into the knowledge by being in the room with bloody Europeans.

And of course one night out passing a bar with this circle of men outside executing soccer chants. They were swarthy and drunk in a way which led me to believe they were Italian-Americans, no doubt rooting for Italy or something.
A block away, though, I hear them burst out into chants of "U - S -A!! U - S - A!!! U - S - A!!!!" and my only response was f*cking what? Who honestly roots for the US in the World Cup? Those with a mental deficiency and a titf**k of a time at pattern recognition?

So, I'm betting on Netherlands the rest of the way. I made the bet against Brazil purely on a whim, but that bet paying off kinda cements the idea of continuing to bet on Netherlands.

I'd like to see Netherlands vs Germany in the finals. I think that'd be a pretty good game to watch.

yeah they're both doing really well this year. most people over here are saying the same thing it's looking deffo to be netherlands v germany final. even spain a normally good team doesn't look to be getting anything out of germany. it'll be a tough game prolly but germany looks pretty set to win now.

@nly - we actually watched the england v usa game with a bunch of americans. they stood up when the national anthem came on .. it was kind of embarrassing but also amusing.

It would be a good game (rematch of famous WC 74 final game) but I fear that Germany would do better against the Netherlands than Spain and I really want the Netherlands to win. Plus if Spain wins the semi-final it would be the two best teams to never win the world cup in the final match (as long as Netherlands beats Uruguay) so you'd be guaranteed of one of those teams getting their first championship. I do have a feeling that it is going to be Netherlands/Germany though with the Netherlands winning it in a very good final match.

ye can't really expect spain to beat germany though, they're just not doing that good. germany had the whole season with this ball as well and everyone else is struggling too much. poor little torres with cut hair, still falling over. germans will come and crush him. =(

Pfft. Americans can't even be bothered to root for their own wars.

I think they should give up on starting Torres but that being said you can't rule out Spain today because to be honest they really haven't played their best and it is quite possible that Germany (who has looked the best in the tournament thus far) might have peaked. I still think Germany will win today but if Germany only plays OK (instead of great) and if Spain has a great game, Spain could definitely win.

EDIT: I don't think this thing will go to penalties but if it does, Germany is always the favorite historically but this time I think it would be their youth vs Spain's experience and pure skill (depending on who has been subbed by that time for both teams). And Spain has Iker Casillas in goal who is no slouch. It could be a surprise PK loss for Germany.

SUPER UNEXPECTED!! but im quite happy about it, like i said before spain is my team's team in work so it'd be fun if they won. also because torres is so endearing ^^ he is actually a great player but just because he's been injured this season it's been kinda shakey. also he is thinking of going somewhere else, like barca or chelsea or something so if spain did win we'd get a lot more for him. i hope he stays in liverpool though, i quite like him. except he should grow his hair out again =/ and kuyt just isn't quite as cool.
