My wife has a "bun in the oven" as they say, and guess what? She's poppin' fresh today!
Water broke about 10 last night, so she's been in the hospital ever since. I'm home because she wants me to put a better shirt on than one I wore to bed, and to feed the cats. I didn't get much sleep last night; maybe about 3 hours. When I left she was 4 cm dilated. I'm taking the computer with me back so expect updates!

And possibly pictures! (safe for work ones only, of course)

ok. at about 12:30 pm EST they broke Rachel's water. this was an attempt to get her delivery moving along.

Wait, her water broke last night, and then later they broke her water again?

^ i was thinking that. but he might just mean that they are doing an epidural or something. it's always hard to tell. we'll have to wait for pictures =S

No, she had a "wet spell" that spurred her to go but apparently the water had not broken. maybe it was the mucus plug.

anyway, they are now giving her meds to make her contractions work better.

Hell, depending on the strength of the Staffmaster's nerves, he might be letting go of some bodily fluids in concert with her.

She's 7 1/2 cm now and she got an epidural. Rachel is conked out right now saving her strength.

We're naming him Bryce Arick. (not sure on the spelling of the middle name, Raich picked it out)

I'm not familiar with the measurement thing, but it looks like there's some progress being made.

As for Arick, is that like "Are-rick" or "Eric"?

I hope it's pronounced like the pirate "Arrrrrrrrrrrhhhh"

I used to think the "dilation" was related to the eyes. But recent TG learnings has learned me that it's related to the opening of the... um... flower.

Sorry. yeah. I know. 4 days.
Rachel banned me from updating cause she was getting annoyed by constantly waking up out of her pain induced delirium to see me posting an update with you guys. While I tried to explain the pure coincidence of the matter, she wouldn't have it, so only now have I gotten the chance to get back to you on this.

So, unless you think that things really went south and she's been in labor for 4 days now, you probably assumed that she has in fact given birth by now.

You would be correct in that assumption.

Bryce Airk Morrison was born at 10:17 pm EST on July 6th. He weighed 7.49 Lbs and was 20 inches long. He, incidentally, happened to also be 13 1/2 in. in circumference. Rachel is 5 feet tall. I won't go into details, but let's just say she may need stitches out in the near future, and um... no scalpels were present at the birth. (owie! T_T)

As for me, I've been extra busy at work, and Rachel has given me "night shift." In other words, Bryce is my responsibility between midnight and 8 A.M.-ish (thank fully, I work second shift so don't need to be "up" until around noon, which means I can hand off responsibility and still get some good sleep in before I have to go to work)

Last night was the first night he was home, and so I had to change some diapers. Not as bad as they make it out to be, I must say...but some of my previous employments have probably desensitized me to it I willing to bet, what with the mass quantities of their bullsh*t I've had to deal with over the years.

As for the Magpies issue... well, I still need my computer (has my favorite copy of Photoshop on it), and now I'm thinking I should retire my faithful Wacom Grapire 3, and go buy a new tablet. Oh, AND I STILL HAVE NO SCANNER.

But...

Fear not. Recent developments in my current state of affairs may render your enjoyment of the next issue of Magpies closer that you think.... (as William Murderface says "It's all about organization!")
