Soooo. The reason I wasn't at Magcon!

Sakura-con is a yearly convention that takes place at the Washington Convention Center on Easter weekend. This year is my fifth year attending.

Some pretty amazing stuff happened. Like, I got to play ITG with Chris Foy. ... One of the people who made it. DJ Sharpnel dj'd on Friday night's rave, and I hugged him afterward. Feel like I met a music legend. Oh, and I wore some of my old clothing. That was exciting.

With attendance breaking 18,000 this year, it's the highest attended Sakura-con to date.

You probably can't tell, but the dude grabbing his neck was being strangled by a chain attached to my neck.



I had no idea Sharpnel was going to be there. Best rave at this con ever. By the way, you can see me a couple times in that video. 4:18, 5:20 for example. And a few times when I'm standing on the edge of a dance circle just kinda observing.

There's probably a few more kicking around. DJ Virus was there, too, that was pretty cool. Virus rocks.





Yeah. Saw some people doing some really good dnb dancing. I might try and pick that up.



Silly annotation disappears around 40 seconds. This is where I first saw dnb dance, never really saw it IRL until this Sakuracon and man, now I'm interested.

Anyway, con stuff.

Some Macross cosplayers.



This guy was kinda not cool. He seemed to hate having his picture taken, and yet wanders around in an expensive Stormtrooper outfit at a convention. Not sure what he was going for.



I got a few FF13 cosplayers photographed (missed the FF13 cosplay photoshoot, unfortunately) and these two were probably the best. The fact that they posed in very fitting poses really added to their success.

I don't think this guy was actually capable of walking. Thing he was holding in his hand was a nice touch, too.



BAMF of the con. I asked him to lay down for this shot (he had a lot of issues, he must have been fairly old) and he SO DID. I had to help him get back up, though. Dude gets my medal of awesome this year.



This one is photoshop enhanced. I took it with my flash off by accident and they broke pose immediately after I took it
So, yeah, I had to lighten it up a lot. I don't think any of you know who they are, but, they were absolutely adorable regardless of previous knowledge. Saw them running around the con a lot over the weekend, and they were ALWAYS in character.

Made me smile.

Uhhh, yeah, Obligatory at any anime convention. She did it really well, though.

Although, I was on the elevator with her later that day and she totally insulted DJ Sharpnel. She's lucky she's dressed as an internet icon.

Had a very loooong Gurren Lagann photoshoot. Those photos go from 258 to 325, if you want to check them all out. I'll just show a few.



Pre- and post-time skip Nia cosplayers. One on the right is a friend of mine, can see her with her boyfriend (also cosplaying a Gurren Lagann character) a few times here and in the group photo up top.

This girl was ADORABLE. Extra points for 9. Danced with her a bit at the rave. Was stellar.





Got a video of this guy doing Carameldansen on the ITG machine behind him. He freestyled the whole thing and did the usual Carameldansen thing during the choruses. Too lazy to render it, though, I'll get to it eventually.



Not sure what this is, but it was cool.

I'm, like, super fanboyish over Nana. So, when I saw these..




... for sale in the dealers room, neither of which I'd ever seen before, I bought them without a second thought. Lucky me, no other booths were selling these cheaper, let alone selling them at all. They are the only ones I have ever seen.

Getting them on to my walls was rough. I ended up shifting things around a lot, such that now even my roof is totally covered in stuff, just make room for these to hang on the wall.

But now I have a problem.



This is bigger than both of those scrolls. I imported it last week some time, and it just arrived today. All of my wall space is occupied, and so is all of my roof space. Note the red box and lol at Japanglish.

Seems you had a great time at Sakura-con. And good post for conveying the mood of everything. Question, was that THE Hard Gay there?

And to answer your questions:
The bald guy is Kratos from God of War. The chick in the same picture is Noriko from Heavenly Sword. The second picture...the clown is Kefka and the girl is Terra, both from Final Fantasy 6.

Dude, those Macross Cosplayers look delicious.

Nah, not THE hard gay. Just a dude very good at acting like Hard Gay.

Also thanks for the identifications. Honestly never would have placed the FF6 one, those chars are so far removed from memory. D: Makes it even more impressive knowing that, though.



I have some more photos of them from a Macross photoshoot, but most of them didn't turn out very well. So many people there made it hard to get them all in one photo, and there was like 50 billion photographers present.

So much to comment on, but so little desire to put forth the effort into it. It looks awesome though, man. The Robo cosplayer was interesting... though the quality is quesitonable. Got to give the dude props though. I, too, immediately noticed those four. I forgot the heavenly sword chick's name though. But yeah, Terra and Kefka are the only two FF6 characters that ever get cosplayed... which is sad seeing as FF6 was one of the few Final Fantasy games that had a vast number of characters, and most of which were really really awesome.

DnB always struck me as something that may have developed from punks taking their bad dance moves to raves and doing them at higher tempos.
Which is acceptable.

Also: I'm glad for one of two things; either there were no Sailor Moon cosplayers at that con, or you didn't take any pictures of them.
For this we may be thankful.

For missing MagCon.

For some stupid reason at first I thought that guy was supposed to be Quan Chi and not Kratos.

Nice Kefka/Terra pose. I guess that image is supposed to be of Kefka symbolically trying to assume his lordship over her or something.
