I guess everyone expects these changes he's talked about to happen instantly.

Just add water.

Well, here's a fact.

When he does do something.. people will know about it.. and they won't be able to stop it or give it direction without massive public outcry (which will happen whether you're involved or not).

As far as politics go.. you're at their whim. Just let it play out and see what happens. I find it remarkable that this day in age when a president 'doesn't do anything' it's a horrid thing to be doing.. but when he tries to implement things the 'public outcry' keeps him from doing it. It's as if what he is trying to do is absolutely and immorally wrong. People don't let things pan out and they don't want change.. which is exactly how he's doing it. Not changing a thing (currently) and people still have public outcry for it.

Vicious circle anyone? I don't see how anyone can really care so much, honestly. It's going to happen or it's not. Just wait for it and you'll find out.

As the first black President, I'm thinking that he's shooting for being as innocuous as possible. I mean, If he screws this up, then he's gonna screw up any future black man (or woman)'s chances of being elected to that office. I'm sure he will try to make things happen that are generally accepted to be positive, but other wise "pass the buck" to some extent on the major issues. That is to say, let the status quo slide for the next 3-7 years. If he wins reelection, I think he'll try to pull something daring, but right now he's hedging his bets. It may not be a wise move, but it is a safe one.

As the first black president I don't think he will screw it up for future black presidents regardless of what he does. I think it is more the case that people now see presidents as being potentially black. So he paved that way but I don't really think it is the case that if he 'fails' people will say it was because he was black but moreso all presidents can fail including black presidents.

In other words, Obama made black presidency real enough now so as to be commonplace that we can move past celebrating the achievement and start treat black presidents like white presidents...we can dislike them ALL for their human failure regardless of race (should they 'fail' us).

None of that was really my point, though all of it was worth saying, really.

But rather my point is that he's not been innocuous. He genuinely hasn't. This man has done more in his first year than most presidents ever do with theirs. Now, people get to dislike what he has done. He's a f*cking president, you're supposed to dislike him. But christ, disliking him for not having done anything is pretty much the only optional stance towards his administration that is patently invalid.

Unless, of course, you'd like to argue that he should be solving all of our problems faster, in which case you do have a technically valid statement, even if a pragmatically idiotic one.

Well it is reasonable at least is it not for him to change "Don't ask don't tell" which he can easily do and which he guaranteed he would do? Why not complain about him not doing it now. Isn't it pragmatically idiotic for him to not just change it when he easily can and wants to? Unless we are to recognize that he pragmatically isn't much more than a regular politician just like every other president.

Hahahahaha

Bo if you're complaining because you bought his 'no politics, I'm just yo negro' line, then no, I don't think you have a right to complain.
I swear, that line's so old it could only work if the guy was black.

And while I don't really believe you bought that line, I do wonder why, out of all the serious 'issues' he is tackling, you really want to complain about this one?

Because this one is easy to tackle and he guaranteed to do so to many of those individuals who voted him into office. It is a serious issue to them. Obama can easily take it off the list of the many things he is trying to accomplish and yet somehow chooses not to. Why wouldn't this be cause for criticism? In other words, while you with this topic are trying to caution people from bashing him prematurely on issues that may take more time, there really is no reason for him not to easily keep his word on this right now.
