Quote:
She charmed millions without ever saying a word, and managed to make fast food tacos adorable. Gidget, the Chihuahua best known for her Taco Bell ad campaign, died from a stroke on Tuesday night at age 15.

"She made so many people happy," says Gidget's trainer, Sue Chipperton. PEOPLE met both Gidget and Sue at a Hollywood animals photo shoot in February, where the pup was a consummate pro and delighted the crew with her playful nature.

The mostly retired actor lived out her days lying in the sun – "I like to joke that it's like looking after a plant," says Chipperton – and entertaining at shoots when her trainer brought her along. "Gidget," says Chipperton, "always knew where the camera was."

She was the only reason why I went there in the first place.

I went there before those commercials were famous. Still, may she rest in peace.

I've only been to Taco Bell twice. And those two times were in 2007.

I'm not a fan of mexican food, but love quesadillas. I always confuse taco bell and taco maker, so I don't know which one I go the most. (and by the most, I mean once every 2 months)

Taco Bell is not Mexican food. It is Mexican style (if you could even call it that!) American food.

To be clear I am not emphasizing that it is from the US instead of Mexico. I'm sure you are aware of that. I am emphasing that it is a disservice to Mexican cuisine to consider Taco Bell as Mexican food when you compare it to real Mexican food. Furthermore, it does not pay due credit to its fast food American quality that you could never find elsewhere, including at a real Mexican restaurant, a quality which makes it taste great!

I bet if they had Arroz con Gandules you'd be there more often. :D

I think that's pretty obvious, Bo!

There are various restaurants around here which easily beat Taco Bell. But it's called fast food for a reason.

I guess.

But I hear people talk about Taco Bell as Mexican food as though it makes it significantly different than other American fast food.

In other words if you have a guest and you want to find out if they would like Taco Bell you shouldn't really ask, "Do you like Mexican food?" you should ask "Do you like American fast food?".

I don't really think that is as obvious to a lot of people so that is why I am saying it.

EDIT: You edited your response so my response was without view of your last sentance. So yes I agree, it is called fast food for a reason. I don't know why it is called Mexican food though.

Let's just agree that it is delicious and I miss most of it now that I have changed my diet.

Well, I am indeed aware of that. I'm not a fan of mexican styled food, no matter where it comes from. Anyway, fast foods restaurants tend to specializes in different stuff. So asking "do you you like American Fast Food is too general. n I like American Fast food, but not Taco Bell because I'm not into mexican (styled or genuine) food.
And if they sold arroz con gandulez there, I still wouldn't go there more often. I don't see the point on buying food I use to eat on a regular basis at home. :P (And I'm not a fan of "comida criolla either. Go figure)

Well, I must say that I actually never knew the true name of the legendary Taco Bell Chihuahua, nor did I ever even realize that this canine hero actually was of the female gender, .... nor was I ever even really fond of Taco Bell's food unless hunger righteously struck me, but still, I was a modest fan of Gidget's for years. So, here is SK's eulogy for her:

'Far as I can tell, there was no greater Chihuahua living.

Wow, so much debate over a food-chain's food. And while it's semi on topic... there as to come a point when something needs to be said. And I think it goes along the lines of:

WHO CLUCKING CARES?!

Now... about the dog: I'm sure that if ever they wanted to bring back those commercials, they'll just grab another dog, but still... Taco Bell makes me think of that 'yo quiero taco bell' slogan that he (but actually she) would say. I may just go clog my arteries a little today in salute to, as SK said, the greatest chihuahua ever.

Though honestly, I can't really think of any other chihuahua that's even remotely awesome. =/

Dude, I have never seen this dog in my entire life.

I spent two weeks in New York one time and the only commercials I distinctly remember were Viagra ones (there were a lot of them... 3 or 4). There was a particularly awesome one that was made entirely of bad puns and word play. "Your wife will have a... big surprise..." No Chihuahua, though.

One thing I've been wanting to ask since then, though. What's the deal with companies bashing each other in their commercials? Like Coke saying "Pepsi sucks, people"? That's illegal over here.

I didn't see it as a debate but rather a discussion on Mexican cuisine and fast food. It's mainly done for competition, Gnasher. I didn't even know it was illegal there, heh.
