So, it's the time to once again witness giant robots fighting it out in shaky cam.

I'll be busy all day until the time the movie is set to start.

As long as I see less of Shia, I'll be happy.

There's a second movie, is there?

What I liked best about transformers was how it all made sense. You had a car or a jet plane or a gorilla and its parts shifted and then you had something else (although I never quite understood why the gorilla had to turn into something that was just slightly more human-shaped). And if your eyes were fast or you had the toy you could see where everything went.

Then the movie came out and it ruined all of it. It's like it's saying "Yeah, these gigantic mechs just unfold out of tiny cars. So whatcha gonna do about it?" right to my face.

Let me know if this movie is any good.

yes i did see it last week and it was very robot like and explody ^_______^ but not as explody as terminator.
there was too much acting and humans though. and the end was very humany and it really could have been more roboty and would have been a lot better. yes. mhm.

Saw it. Liked it. The humor wasn't necessary but if Bay wants it funny then it's his choice. I liked the twins, they made the movie a little better.

Jetfire was also awesome.

The fights scenes looked like someone whent to a junk yard and made a huge katamari ball and then sent it bounding down a hill and just recorded it at several angles.

It's all the rage now.

Plus the action is pretty solid. Sure the camera is shaky but people should be used to that by now.

I disagree and I will never get into action scenes that I cannot see properly.
Especially when it's done intentionally. It's supposed to raise the "tension" or something. I can see where they're coming from, but I still think it's crap. When I'm watching action movies I don't want to be thrilled and pumped with adrenaline (lots of things out there that achieve that goal marvelously), I want to watch some action scenes.

Only I can't because not letting the audience know what's going on is all the rage now, as you said.
Then what's the point of making the movie at all?

Just like the plot and pacing of a movie, it can make it even more exciting or cause it to die in a fire of medioce filmmaking. The "shaky-cam" technique can result in a great scene filled with heart pounding moments emphasized by the roller-coaster like shake of the camera or a mind numbing and confusing mess that can tell the audience that the director became very lazy.

Of course my comment about people getting used to it is untrue and I apologize for it. However, it really depends on how it's used. For example, the Bourne series would have been less exciting if the shaky cam technique wasn't used at all. Bourne's constant running and kicking of the ass is damn awesome with the shaky camera there to emphasize the action. Some say it would have been better without it, some disagree, it's all a matter of personal taste.

Like I said, the action scenes in Transformers 2 were solid. Not once during the fights did I complain about the camera being annoying, hell it made it even better. Giant FIGHTING ROOBOTS COOME OON! HOW COULD THE SHAKY CAMERA NOT FIT IN!?

This "shaky cam" technique is going to be used for a loooong time, it will sometimes be used horribly and it will sometimes benefit an epic fight scene or a frantic car chase.

It's a tool. I'm not really opposed to any tool being used so long as it's being used properly. When you saw against the grain with a rip-saw, it frays the wood. When you saw against the grain with a cross-cut, it works beautifully, assuming the person utilizing the tool for its proper uses has steady technique and knows to what end he is cutting.

I'm opposed, in general, to bad carpenters hewing wood.
I'm opposed, more powerfully, to a tool shed which is missing something that could be used to complete the job with greater affect.

I liked the humany aspect of the first one... (Haven't seen the second one yet)
ANd I hate shaky battles. Sometimes I get the feeling that the fighters are just pretending to fight by waving their arms while the camera moves violently left and right.
