When I hear someone say that (topic title), I think it's stupidly silly. Mainly for the fact that if you feel anything at all and have some sort of moral fiber in your body, you would feel some pangs of regret for something at some point. I believe that if you don't regret anything, you probably don't care enough about whatever it is you "don't regret." Maybe I'm just an overly sensitive person that feels guilt or sadness or whatever else when I felt I've done something bad, and would like to atone for it. But in the end, people feel like having regrets is bad. Why? It's not about not living with regret, but how you can move past those feelings. That's what I think anyway. What do you think?

i think the context you are referring to is erroneous.

when someone says they live with no regrets, it does not literally mean nothing bothers them. many people who feel regret look backwards at the past and wish things there different or desire another out come. one who lives without regret is a person who looks to the future rather then the past, realizing and rationalizing what has happened rather then regretting whats transpired. as you state, living in the direct context of no regrets is simply impossible for a human being.

i was one such person who looked to the past and wished for other outcomes or regrets paths that i did not take. i eventually came to realize that the future is forward, not behind and try to live without regret. this doesnt mean i walk blindly and ignore the world, but means i accept my decisions and know that what is meant to be will happen - i know the grass is not as green as it looks on the far bank. that is living life without regrets.

I myself tend to agree with you regarding the idea that if you feel guilty, you basically effectively regret whatever you feel guilty about.

It is possible, however, for others not to maintain this even while still embracing feelings and moral fibers. There are some people who do in fact feel sad or guilty for what they have done like you mention above but still say that they do not regret the things that made them feel guilty or sad (and thus live with no regrets) because these things 'made them who they are'. I myself am not particularly impressed with this reason, but many people think that things are "meant" to be a certain way (I do not) and for those people, if they didn't have these experiences of guilt or sadness, they would not be fulfilling who they were "meant" to be according to their belief.

Therefore they do not regret those bad things that made them feel sad or guilty because to them if they did, it would be admitting that they do not value experiencing whatever is necessary to make them who they were "meant" to be and therefore, now who they are.

You gotta live, swallow your pride, and just move on
You only live one life, so please be strong
It's a waste thinking back on the pain
It just enters your brain
Plus you'll end up going insane (Uh)

Baby, I told you so
You just gotta let it go, I know
baby I told you so
You just gotta let it go
