Let's say you come into possession of one dollar (and if you live outside the US, the equivilant currenty of one dollar, ie one euro). How you come to own it isn't important, other than the fact that this is your dollar, and not someone else's. Let's say you found it on the street.

My question to you is, what would you do with that dollar? Would you save it? Spend it? If spending, on what? Play with it? I want to know.

I ask this question because as I find myself with very low income and paying off debts, I've started to notice how every dollar matters. A dollar, even by itself, can be used in so many unique ways, and I imagine everyone would use that dollar differently.

So, I'd like your response please.

id put it in my coin jar for laundry. by itself it wont buy me a wash or a dry cycle, but it adds up. i cant even get a coffee for a dollar

Well if it is just one dollar I'd hold on to it (unless my total debt was one dollar). I'd probably spend it when I found something worthwhile like a can of soda pop. On second thought I would go get generic cola in a 2liter for $.87. I am also short on money and there is no need paying a whole dollar for a single can of soda pop, even if it is Dr. Pepper.

I'd probably hand it over when a bum asked me for a dollar.

I would take the bus with it.
It's either 75 cents to take the biggest bus, that seems to pass every 1 hour and 15 minutes (plus 40 mins to get home)

or 1 dollar to take asmaller one that I can ride every few minutes, leaves me 15 minutes away from home and makes me walk the rest. I still get home before the first one even manages to pick me up.
Actually, I could get home faster simply walking that waiting for the first bus. Public Transportation here sucks.

today i got 4 packs of noodles for 1pound.

other things.. i could get milk and cookies. i could get a 2ltr to go with all the alcohol i got left. =S i could get 2 loaves of bread. i could get a chicken mushroom pasty. i could get quite a bit of pasta.

but i couldln't get the bus. i coudlnt' completely dry my clothes. or wash them at all. and .. i ... dont' really want a hooker or a coin shoved up my ass ... so .. we'll just leave those out ... <___<

I'd throw it in a one eyed jack slot machine and make $3 out of it. Then I'd play a hand of blackjack. Or I'd save another 70 cents and buy a Gatorade for softball practice later today.

That's actually one of the best answers yet. And probably one of the most realistic. Even drinks/candy these days aren't a dollar anymore.

What I would end up doing is either break it down into quarters and save it for when I need to do laundry or keep it in my wallet with other small bills that I've ran across and use them all for a tip when I go out to eat... because I don't really carry cash on myself.
