Yes, it's a serious problem. I'm lazy pretty much all the time, have been since last year. I'm able to get myself to do something every once in a while, but it's always short-lived. If you guys could help me get out of this laziness streak somehow, it'd be much appreciated.

Yay, apathy really has no real counter. And I would much like to help you get back into the swing of things too... but I'm not sure exactly how to do that. If I did, I'd probably be trying the same thing on alot of other people.

So I guess if you have a suggestion that would better help you get back involved with things, I'd be glad to assist.

How the hell do you expect us to do that, if you yourself can't?

I'm very lazy myself and I've found that the best way to counter it is that good old method used when you're just about to dive into a pool of cold water.

Shut the brain down, say to yourself 'f*ck!' and just go.

Ya bum... get on with making that game. If you don't accomplish something gamewise within 48 hours, something VERY bad will happen to one member of the magazine. For each 48 hours you go without reporting progress, an additional VERY bad thing will happen.
...

It'll be you! (what a twist!)

I thought that was kinda funny, myself. But that's just my opinion.

You just have to sit down and do it. Force yourself if you have to. Set goals. Like you have to work on your game for an hour before you can watch TV. You have to finish a dungeon before you can eat that cookie.

You have to do it. You can't expect us to get the game done for you. Nothing we say or do will make you do it. You have to take charge yourself or you won't get anywhere.

Embrace your laziness, celebrate it, enjoy it and understand that it is not at all a problem, it is our human nature as animals.

If you don't like knowing that you are lazy, use your dislike to motivate you to do 'anything other than to be lazy'.

Once moving, direct and convert your energy into endeavors of interest.

Nah, that happens anyway.

The sad thing is, that very thought didn't motivate me enough when I needed to do those reviews back before this staff change occurred.

Tried it. I couldn't force myself to do what I wanted, and went and did lazy stuff anyway.

Right idea, maybe. But wrong...um, the word for trying to apply it.

I'm pretty sure that my laziness is one of the worst cases you'll ever see.

Well, I guess I can try to give more specific advice, that works for me – and I'm pretty lazy myself.

I've always found easier to do things that I already know how to do. I usually tend to think about what I have to do during my idle moments of the day: while eating, taking a shower, in the bus, etc. When I know what I want to do, it gets much easier to sit down and do it, since the brainstorming process has already been taken care of.
This specific reply, for instance, was created in my mind at 7 AM about three days ago.

Another thing to do is set targets. "Today I want to write that school paper until the third paragraph" or "today I want to make five different enemies in RPGM", that kind of thing.

There's something I do that's a little hard to pull off. That is catching yourself off-guard.
Usually when I have something annoying to do that makes me lazy, I don't do it. But when I notice I'm idling around thinking about what to do next, I make myself start the annoying thing right away before I have time to notice it myself. And when I notice, I'm already doing it.
It's tricky to go against your own self, but when it works, it works wonders.

Something that works for me is always to the things you 'have' to do (i.e., either the ones you want yourself to do or the things you really have to do) first and foremost.
I've found that if I start slacking off, I won't likely stop until the end of the day; so I always do the 'obligatory' stuff before the slacking off (TV, games, etc).

Hope this helps somehow. These are small strategies I use to make myself do the things I don't want to do, or am too lazy to do.

Of everything you just mentioned, the "do it before you feel like being lazy" thing is the only thing that works sometimes. Too bad laziness kicks in way too quickly.

And my problem isn't that it's stuff I don't want to do. It's just getting msyelf to do it.

I'll probably be hassled for saying this, but maybe you shouldn't spend so much time on the mag. You could use the time for things that are actually constructive.

Well, you did say for someone to slap you if your hours of creation for SR didn't increase... Now to figure out who lives closest to you to come give you a backhand to the face.

Anyway, we can't force you to start doing anything. Wetiher it be more active here or just more active with RM1... but I can say that I'd personally like to see you around more often as you are a good member, dispite your absense, and that I truely am looking forward to playing SR. And actually, I'd be a good bit dissapointed if it were never to come out. I would still like to release Arc Arath around the same time as Slayers' Reign.

Though hoenstly, it's not till '09 till that'll happen.
