In the Crysis thread, Lone and Valk were discussing the preformance of Crysis at it's max settings. Valk linked to a board holding 3 PCIe slots which hosted 3 nVidia 8800GTs:

Thinking that was one of the most badass things I've seen, I couldn't help but look to se if there was a way to find a board which had another pcie slot.

And I found one.

http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/10/04/ ... therboard/

I really want someone to slam in another GT in it and give Crysis another go.

Look at that link and all the information on that board. Tom's Hardware goes really in depth with it. The guy even found a way theoretically get up to 10 displays running off of that board.

Anyway, I thought this was a bit of a nerd-gasm... so I thought I'd see if anyone else got a kick out of it.

Well, assuming that the bios is up to par with 08 boards and such, holding a fourth 8800GT might... MIGHT be able to get normal frames per second on Crysis with the graphic settings wide open. So in that viewpoint, no it's not really overkill.

But for anything else... Yeah, very much so. I doubt anyone NEEDS 8 monitors for anything

i could roast an egg on that motherboard with all 4 slots humming. even with super cooling thats a sick amount of power. i wonder how much power it takes to run, youd need a real powerful tower to take those elite components plus the other cool stuff you probably have. to think that perhaps in a few years graphical processing power like this maybe mainstream.

im enjoying my voodoo 3 graphic card just nicely.

First off... those were only invidia gforce 6600. Also the board was discontinued in '05 do to lack of need for them. I'm sure a 550 Watt power supply would be able to handle that assuming there isn't any mods such as lights or extra hard drives, ect.

That's why I kind of throw it into question as it's a litttle old.

And wow... voodoo 3? I haven't heard anyone mention voodoo cards in a freaking grip. Is it 128 Meg?

::edit::

Pics of said board if you don't feel like reading the article from link:

Too bad it was powered by a Pentium 4 :p. Nothing like my Core 2 Duo.

Well, the socket for the processor IS a 775, which is the same as a core 2 duo... So I'm sure the board whould support it, dispite its 3 year age.
