Animal Crossing is one of the greatest video games of all time for exactly what this story is conveying.

Make sure you read the story in the orignal post of this topic before reading the spolier below:
Much of the reason that my relationship with my girlfriend has lasted for over six years now is because we spent a great deal of time communicating through Animal Crossing in the first couple of years of our relationship. If we ever break up (it would likely be mutual on good but sad terms), it would kill me the first time the townsfolk asked where she was or to see her old house with her not living there.

I don't know if I can refer this post to her or not. She might not be able to handle it.
Actually, I've never really cared much for animal crossing. I never liked the sim genre of games. But the actual game here isn't really the point, now is it?

Appologies. =P

I think that Animal Crossing is a love it or hate it game, but more than most games, you really need to play it on a daily basis for at least a month or two to judge it fairly.

I'm not saying that any of you all necessarily hasn't but seriously, you have to really understand it before you can rule it out. And just because you hate it today doesn't mean that you won't love it tomorrow. It doesn't seem like the game could ever be for a casual fan or thought of as just OK so DuelExpert's response does surprise me a bit.

Hmmm. That's an incredibly touching story. Not really much more I can say about that.

Saw this yesterday on that site where one of the first rules of it is you do not talk about it. It was in a you cry you lose thread.

But assuming it's not copy pasta it is a pretty sad story.
