then couldn't we figure out a way to superheat the body's blood by circulating it out of the body, sending it to a quick boil, sending it to a cooling area, and then pumping it back into the body?

The process would be to be near-instantaneous, though, but it could be the method to kill all types of viruses.

I'm fairly sure that you'd also denature every protein in the blood, and we need some of that stuff to live.

it's been a while since A-Level biology, though.

(This is all just a guess)

Even if you could manage to destroy the protein coat of the virus called a capsid without destroying the protein of the blood cell, there is a possibility that the virus could regenerate it as the capsid is likely a coded subunit of the genetic material represented by the virus.

But even if once the original capsid is gone it is never reassembled, your are probably still going to be more interested in the DNA or RNA (which are nucleic acids) of the virus as this is what it is using to replace the DNA or RNA of the human blood cell.

To destroy this you either need to break the bonds of the nucleic acids that are holding together the nucleotide bases, or destroy the bases all together. Either way, any heat that would do this would probably do the same to the DNA or RNA (genetic material) of the host blood cell, thus the cell would not be able to reproduce.

So it seems you would still have to target and filter which cells are infected otherwise, even if you managed to keep the protein intact, the cells would no longer be able to reproduce as the nucleic acids that genetically serve to code and construct said proteins would be destroyed.

If you could target which cells were infected (host cells), you would just discard them and not put them back into the system and let the uninfected cells account for cellular reproduction.

(This is all just a guess, don’t let it deter you from looking further into it).

Sorry, Bonanza Wire :)

Ixzion, the answer is "no".

It's all good. I should have put a lol emoticon next to what I wrote to Ixzion so that you would have known I was joking.

I like that Bo talks alot. It makes it easy to get to know him. :)

Well, yeah.. White blood cells are very much needed. And to kill them are bad. I think thats why people with AIDs can't get better.

Also.. When you cook things they go threw a "chemical" change. I don't think the blood will still be the same substance. :/

KK makes me laugh.

The problem is, how can we superheat the blood and not destroy it? Sure we can heat the blood to kill the virus, but how do we keep our blood cells from burning up?

I found Bo's post to be informative, really.

The problem has been stated and restated by everyone actually addressing the topic thus far, so, apart from adding that the time frame you gave for the transfer to occur in does not allow for the current technological capabilities in heating and cooling, I have nothing to add.

So are you saying Ixzion, that if you could make someone mad enough, it would cure any viruses they had?

=)
for anyone who really needed it explained and to cover my ass from looking like an idiot if nobody understands - - being mad = 'it makes my blood boil', gerrit? ...
but yeah... aside from ANY biological or simply logical facts... it sounds kind of .. uncomfortable. like.... cremation is the best way to dispose of Dead things that have been diseased. in effect: 'hi, i'm doctor so-&-so and i'm going to cremate you alive' would'nt make me feel any Better.

Just stay away from dirty women and you'll have a smaller chance of getting a virus.

Although this does bring an idea to mind.

If we could locate the virus within the blood that was being pumped out but not necessarily filter or remove it, could we then use pinpoint Lasers to destroy the virus (and unfortunately a small amount of blood with it) and then return the blood to the body. Of course this is entirely situational as we would still have to be able to locate it and not be able to just remove it. Although if I remember correctly location should be quite simpler then removal. And of course any amount of blood lost in the laser pulses would have to be replaced...But still. An idea perhaps?

I feel as though I'm sitting in an anime storyboarding session.

It's a thought. Hmm. Man has on average around 5 liters of blood in his body - that's a targeting nightmare, even with running it outside the body, as you would have to sift through all cells in order to be sure you got what you could, though many viruses are dormant and untraceable or assaulting a certain organ or part.
It's a curious, thought, however, and I wouldn't mind watching the pwetty light show through someone else's life giving fluids, as it would probably be a fair spectacle.

Ah, that's the rub. Not destroying the red blood cells. I hadn't thought they could be destroyed by high temps.

Ummmm ..... Why try to come up with all of these scientific explanations to prove or disprove that Ixzion's proposed method will work? My girlfriend (:angel) knows healing magic; just go to her whenever you are infected by a virus. ^_^

... And, yeah, everything that Bo said earlier, ... so, there ya go, Ix. :D

Hmm....I think dialysis works a bit like this idea, but then again ,dialysis isn't a good method either.

I know an idea besides Sarah's Knight's girlfriend's healing magics. (What a chain :P ) Just sacrifice an inoccent virgin and become reborn again through their vessel, and be sure to use dark magics......easy. :D

omigawsh, or you could replace all the blood in your body with donated blood and the all the donated blood would have an epic battle for dominance in your body. =D

... Actually, forget everything else. I like Miss Sumi's suggestion the best.
^_^

..... And you can soon expect to be banished to dark Abyss forever at the hands of my Northern Longblade sword for that innocent virgin remark that you had the audacity to make earlier, Leviathan. ... Why? Only a true demon would say such things. :angel

(... And, yes, now that I have discovered it, I plan on making extensive use of this "angel" emoticon. Beware, everyone.)

I agree.

With everything.

You smart talkers with your big words... You know who you are.

My method of fixing things is to start over, I sometimes transmigrate and all of my stats stack a little bit each time... Problem solved.
