We are thinking about starting to use vista around the plant. So the IT department is upgrading our computers. So I thought I'd go ahead and take a few shots durring the process for... whatever reason.

Here's the case and all the hardware going into it.
I'm using a Soprano case... which actually I don't much care for as it is bulky. also, I just don't like how that bar makes it 50 times harder to get a powersuply in it. Also, I think the PCI clamps are a little stupid... and it weighs a ton...

What's going in is the Asus P5N32. Has 3 PCIE slots (woot, 6 monitor max... though I'm only putting in one card (dual monitor). The boards chipsets are cooled via heatpiping, which I'm actually a pretty big fan of. Everything else is pretty standard.

The video card is an Asus nVidia 7900GS 256 meg. Dual DVI output... Not the greatest, but it runs.

The HD is just a 250 Gig Seagate... Serial ATA.

I gig of dual sink Corsair memory.

A 650 watt powersupply and a 9 heat pipe orb processor fan... both from Thermaltake.

The proccessor is a Intel Cor 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz, 1066 FSB w/ 4mb of L2 cashe. I'm personally a AMD guy, but this actually runs pretty well.

Image

As I said, getting a power supply past that damn bar is pretty much a pain. It's rivveted into place, so you can't unscrew it.
Image

Before you put a mobo in, you have to put in the screw mounts. I usually just eyeball them as each motherboard will usually have a diffrent screw setting.
Image

I will aways go ahead and put the heatsink fan brackets on the proccessor before screwing it down. Funny little note is that I almost forgot to put the faceplate on the back...
Image

Now I go ahead and get the damn jumpers out of the way. I've never been a fan of getting these set up right. You can't really tell which is possitive or negetive now a days and is usually a trial and error type deal. But this time, I seems to have gotten it on the first try... lucky me.
Image

From here, I go ahead and throw on the hard drive, CD ROM, video card, proccessor and proccessor fan...
Image
Image

And now it gets messy. This is where you take the powersupply cords and get everything powered up. There's cords running to ever fan, the hard drive, CD Rom, 2 places on the mobo (24pin and 8 pin connectors), and a 6 pin for the video card. Then the SATA cable for the hard drive as well as the front pannel USB, audio, and 1394 cables.
Image

Then you throw the side pannel back on the case, hook it up, and load your OS... (assuming the above is all correct... which is was ^_^)
Image

Hope I didn't bore the hell out of you too bad. Just one of the things I'll do in a day...

::edit::

I just realized how crappy quality the pictures are. My appologies... my camera pretty much sucks.

Wow, that's beautiful *wipes tears*

It takes one hell of a computer to run vista, which is sort of retarded but I guess it's good as far as profit goes :\
You'll have a plant full of totally supercomputers! Just to run vista...... o.o ... *jealousy* hehe...

My computer that I'm going to be getting at the end of the year is totally going to kick the crap out of that one :p.

But I think this is a decent article on how to build a computer for those who haven't done so. It's really fairly simple, installing the OS usually takes about the same amount of time as building the thing, now that heatsinks are supposedly easier to put on.

Heh, has anyone else taken A+ and had to watch that video where they show you how to put a computer together? that video made me itch >_< this lady was being so delicate and it was like... you know the voice on planes or on public annoucements that sounds so monotone? it had a voice like that explaining.. and this lady even had a grounding wire and an anti-static mat or whatever.. .. as if anyone in real life uses those to put things together. at least not at home :\

Seriously, just make sure you touch the damn case :p. Haven't shorted out any of my parts, and I've put together 4 computers, looking to make that 6 by the end of the year.

Hells yeah :p. Though MS is forcing everyone to get Vista if you want their new Silverlight, DirectX, Windows Media Player, and basically anything new from them. Only a matter of time before all the Windows developers start following suit.

Somehow I can't find the problem in that one. :P
Free Open Source FTW! Old OS FTW! ^___^

But at the same time, uber 1337 computer FTW. hehe ^^

Well until device drivers for your new uber 1337 parts are written only for Vista, and no more security patches are released for 2K (also in a couple of years I imagine games will only be written for DX10, which is only on Vista). Also if Free Open Source FTW then why are you using Windows at all? There is nothing you have to have Windows for right (just like there is nothing you'll need Vista for, hmm)? Trust me, there will come a point where you'll pretty much have to upgrade to Vista or be left behind if you're going to continue to be a windows user.

I've already conformed.... so to speak.

But if it makes you feel any better, the OS we use on the servers up here are Win2k... :)

@ttc - because windows is easy. and i'm lazy. it took me how many years to finally switch to Opera? and to winamp/vlc? ... quite a few.

eventually when i get all my junk actually organised i'll switch to linux and never go back. mostly i'm just too disorganised to do anything and running on whatever i have. >_<
