Wow! Last week you and nearly 100,000 other people told the U.S. Copyright Office to protect YouTubers and content creators from unfair takedowns by fixing how Fair Use is treated under the DMCA.

Copyright law is so out of step with modern culture and creativity. Videos and other works are being taken off the Internet before they have even had a chance to breathe. The only people who really want to keep it that way are the big corporations who want to hold onto the old ways to exploit creators and protect their profits.

So, if we're ever going to start fixing copyright, we need the artists that the big corporations hide behind to see how maximalist copyright is killing culture, and work with us on solutions. That's why we're building a coalition of artists who will help fix copyright.

Will you sign this petition asking your favorite celebrity artists to join a call to fix copyright? If we get to 1 million signatures, we can get top artists to seriously look at how copyright is broken and join us.

For too long, the conversation around copyright has been siloed and distorted by just a few special interests. Big corporate rights holders have been exploiting artists and creators, and using their voices to pass draconian copyright laws that serve monopolies more than anyone else. We need to get past this stymied debate and misinformation and understand where copyright should be in the digital age.

No one can speak to the problem of DMCA takedown abuse like us: the content creators and fans who experience it all the time. That's why it's up to people like you to actually stand up and help us reach some of the most powerful voices in this debate––celebrity artists themselves. If we're ever going to reach solutions, we need to work together to bridge the divide between those who get it and those who are unwittingly serving the big guys in suits.

That's why it's on us to elevate the debate on copyright. It's time to pull in the biggest voices to have a real conversation on what copyright laws should actually look like in the digital age. But, we need your help to get past the powerful few who have owned this debate for so long, and get to real solutions.

People who make stuff and share it on YouTube, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook, and more are changing the world. We're all benefiting from this Internet-enabled culture.

We are getting our news, jokes, art, and music from millions of brilliant individuals rather than just what's on TV. We're actually starting movements that overthrow governments, breaking up the power of lobbying cartels, and making the culture we're living in.

If we change copyright, we protect all of that freedom of expression AND make it possible for the creators who make great stuff to make a living.

Our current copyright system is failing at both. Yet, we're staring at solutions in the face.

It's possible to make sure takedown abuse doesn't happen. First, we can make sure takedown requests are legitimate and if not, there should be a fine for making bogus claims. Preventing censorship of free speech is that important. Then, we can make sure there's a fair use review before takedowns happen. Allowing people to comment, criticize, and remake is that important. Hey, maybe even shorten the terms on copyright for non-commercial uses. That'd be something!

We started this movement, and it's up to us to take it to the next level. Help reach those who can work with us to fix copyright for everyone.
