Hey guys, I saw Iron Man 3 today:

Way to completely sh*t on The Mandarin. I mean, I thought the twist in the movie was funny that the guy playing him was just some actor at first. However, they completely squandered a chance to use Iron Man's best villain.

Why wouldn't they use the fact that Mandarin has 10 f*cking ALIEN MAGIC RINGS??? Especially after an alien invasion in The Avengers? This would have been the perfect opportunity to introduce the concept of magic to the Marvel Movie Universe.

Instead, we get some other stupid white guy who has a hang-up over Tony Stark leaving him up on a roof 13 YEARS ago as the Mandarin. Why does he still give a sh*t? He got extremely handsome and earned billions of dollars in the time since.

Back to the Mandarin. Did I mention that he has 10 f*cking ALIEN MAGIC RINGS? Here's just THREE of them.

Quote:
Mento-Intensifier
The ring magnifies the wearer's own psionic energy, allowing him to place one or more people under his mental control and to transmit orders to them mentally. Most frequently used to create illusions. The gem is shaped like a blue diamond/tilted square.

White Light
This ring can emit various forms of energy along the electromagnetic spectrum. Has been used to create gravity powerful enough to make Iron Man bury himself by trying to walk forward. The gem is shaped like two white circles, set in gold (almost like a pair of eyes).

Matter Rearranger
This ring can rearrange the atoms and molecules of a substance, or speed up or slow down their movement, so as to produce various effects. The ring has been used to condense water vapor in the air to liquid water, to solidify gasses, to create lethal poison gas from the air, to turn a group of men to stone, to turn a man into a beetle, to turn a mountain into a rock-monster, and to make a stone hand large enough to engulf Iron Man's body erupt from the floor. The ring cannot transmute elements or rearrange the atoms and molecules of Iron Man's magnetic-beam reinforced armor. The gem is shaped like a small purple circle.

I was so prepared to see how some of that sh*t was gonna play out in this movie. But no, couldn't possibly get any of that goodness. None of that happened. We just got a generic punchfest.

And the Iron Man suit in this movie is fragile as f*ck. Every other punch he was getting knocked the f*ck out of them. Also, Tony was out of the suit so damn much. And when he was in the suit, it was malfunctioning.

The entire movie was a missed opportunity. I hope they retcon this sh*t and actually make the actor Mandarin and USE HIS 10 f*cking ALIEN MAGIC RINGS.

I saw it a couple of days ago (bro in law had tickets for the premiere) I can't say I disliked it, but I guess it left me feeling something was off.
I don't know much about Iron Man outside the movie realm, but I did know Iron Patriot was supposed to be Green Goblin in disguise and not War Machine repainted) And I did wonder if this Mandarin was a close representation to the comics counter part after my brother told me Mandarin was supposed to be Iron Man's big main nemesis.

Interesting, Ix. And you just answered a question that's been on my mind.

I don't know anything about Mr. Mandarin or any of the classic Iron Man lore aside from the two movies I've seen. But I just got two Iron Man 3 Lego sets. One is Tony Stark's "Malibu Mansion Attack", with the side of Tony's house and... a helicopter with guns. Comes with Mr. Mandarin and an Extremis solider, and... I was wondering how these guys with a helicopter with guns are supposed to be any kind of threat to Iron Man, a guy who can fly and shoot lasers and power beams from his hands. I was thinking "This Mandarin dude had better have some super-powers or something."

And I guess it turns out, he does have super-powers! Just ones they didn't use in the movie.

The other Lego set is "Extremis Sea Port Battle" with some kinda bad guy in a speedboat with missile launchers. Also comes with Iron Man and his buddy War Machine. How is this guy in the speedboat with missile launchers (as cool as it is) not gonna be toast after Iron Man and his buddy are through with him?

My point being, to someone who doesn't know anything about Iron Man, a guy with a beard, a cape, and some guns doesn't look like much of a match for the hero.

Saw it today. I see what you're talking about, Ix.

The Lego sets don't even match the movie.

Malibu Mansion Attack

Sea Port Battle

Mandarin Showdown

Based on these Lego sets, I was expecting to see...

1. Bearded guy in helicopter attacks Tony's cliffside mansion.

2. Some bad guy in a speedboat is trying to get away or something. Iron Man and War Machine are in pursuit.

3. Bearded guy in a tank fights against Iron Man.

The only one that was actually in the movie is the first one, but the bearded guy wasn't there.

Also, Tony Stark is stupid. I understand why he behaved the way he did (he's an egotistical fool), but after publicly inviting the bad guy to his home address he shouldn't be surprised when three helicopters show up and blast the place to smithereens. I was groaning throughout that whole sequence. Would have been better if the bad guys found out where he is through some clever means. On second thought, how is Tony Stark's home address not common knowledge? He's an egomaniac. He's a celebrity. He's a super-hero whose identity is publicly known. Anyone should be able to Google his place of residence.

I agree, too much Robert Downy Jr., not enough Robert Downy Jr. in the armor suit.

Worst Iron Man ever. Not that I'm a fan or anything. His part in the Avengers was way better than the schlock-fest we got here.
