Anybody who's hung around in the chat enough will know that I get called in to work. A lot. Way more than anybody ever should. I've been wanting to keep track of how often it's happened, and at this point I'm frustrated enough that I decided to make a topic about it, so all would know my frustrations.

I got called in once last week. I just now got called in to work tonight. I'm supposed to get three nights off each week. Well, that's one night a loss. I still have two more nights coming. Let's see if I get to keep those.

Because minimum wage is SO lucrative. Sometimes you just prefer to sit at home playing games and chatting online.

Be that as it may, if that happens to be the position you are in atm, I can see how being called in on a regular basis to be... irritating. Specially if you had plans.

Lantis is right, I wouldn't mind getting called in if it didn't happen so dang frequently. I'm not losing one night of free time, I'm losing many. And it's not fun spending your day off wondering if you'll really have it off.

A question for the uninformed (like me). Draygone, what kind of work do you do that you get called in so often? Hospital ER or something like that?

I work at a bakery. And I keep getting called in because the other guy either calls off or just plain doesn't show up. (He also doesn't clean up.)

Ah. My sister had to deal with stuff like that at her former job. She worked the night audit at a hotel/water park resort. She had two days off per week, and the auditor who covers those days often had problems running the computers and had to call my sister for help. We'd be at my place playing some Battlefront, and she'd get a call, and yep, hafta put it on pause while she walks her co-worker through a troubleshooting procedure. She also had to go in frequently when the other girl couldn't make it. Sister's chronic fatigue got worse, and she started taking three days off. That's three days of not knowing if she was gonna be needed for something, and she usually needed the first of the three to rest and recover energy just to be able to function semi-normally around the house.

Just got called in. Third week in a row, I'm pretty sure.
The guy who was supposed to work tonight? Didn't show up, cannot be contacted. Not the first time he's done this.

You know, where I'm from, that's a "no call, no show" and is terms for being fired immediately.

It's possible. There's this kid who's about to get out of school who worked for us for a few nights, and he shows promise. Could be a replacement. But right now, we got nobody else to take the guy's place except me. Which is why I'm always the one to get called in.

Been a couple weeks, but I've been called in again. The other guy is on his way to Texas for something family-related. Probably the most understandable reason thus far (actually, it's the only reason I've been given that I can remember), but I'm still making note of it.

Oh, I should probably mention that I also have to go in tonight, as well. Which was expected. Texas is a long ways away from here. On the plus side, usually if I ever lose two nights off in the same week, my boss gives me an extra night off later on. I'm gonna see if I can pick a specific night.

Just got cleaned up, ready to relax for the night and not be all icky and sweaty. And then, phonecall from work.

Surprised I went this long without getting called in.

Called in. Woo.

I was told I can have Wednesday off. We'll see if that lasts. =P

Made it a little ways in before getting called in tonight. Drat, and I was about to eat supper.
