We've all had those moments where we hear of something insane and say, "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!" The catch is, there's a lot of "stupidest things" we've heard. So this topic is for us to post all the things we've heard that sound so stupid that you can't believe they're real.
My list (for the moment) is as follows:
1) In "Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage", which is an RPG on the N64, you take damage when you pick a lock on a treasure chest. And it's not that the chest triggers a trap. There are actually trap chests in the game that have a chance to cause damage to your team if your lock picker isn't good enough. But no, even if you succeed in picking a lock, whether it has a trap or not, your lock picker takes damage. In fact, if your character is too low on HP, it will refuse to let you pick a lock. Otherwise, your lock picker would die from picking a lock. I actually ranted about it in a let's play of the game. Here's where the idioticness begins:

2) There are college books that cost $200... and have no binding. Instead, it has holes for you to place the sheets of the book into a binder. Here's the relevant conversation:
Quote:
[myoky] 3:32 pm: I bought a $200 physics textbook today
[Lantis] 3:32 pm: Ugh...
[Lantis] 3:33 pm: I bought a $130 3tb hard drive yesterday.
[myoky] 3:33 pm: not only that, but apparently $200 doesn't buy you a book binding
[myoky] 3:33 pm: $200 only gets you the entire text book with binder holes
[Draygone] 3:34 pm: um, waht?
[Lantis] 3:34 pm: ...
[Lantis] 3:34 pm: You're kidding, right?
[Lantis] 3:34 pm: Can you sell it back?
[myoky] 3:34 pm: the $200 textbook I bought doesn't have a binding
[Lantis] 3:34 pm: Like, after the class is over?
[myoky] 3:34 pm: it's just a giant stack of pages all hole punched
[myoky] 3:34 pm: I have no idea
[Lantis] 3:34 pm: That's insane.
[Lantis] 3:34 pm: That's literally insane.
[myoky] 3:34 pm: yup
[myoky] 3:35 pm: the hardcover version is more expensive
[Lantis] 3:35 pm: Honestly, I can't remember hardcover or softcovers being more expensive back when I was in college.
[Lantis] 3:35 pm: But they for damn sure had them.
I'm probably cheating a little by including some else's "stupidest thing", though. =P
3) A criminal who tried breaking into someone's basement in Michigan got stuck in the window and was able to sue the homeowners because their basement window was too dangerous to enter. Or, some kids who hung "? blocks" from Mario around their hometown for April Fool's Day got arrested because those "? blocks" might've contained bombs. Or, these minors at a drive-thru sang their order, and the person taking their order felt like her life was in danger and had them arrested. It's going on their criminal records, now.
Take your pick on which of those is dumbest.
I'll probably add more dumbest things as time goes on. What about you guys?
