actually, no... i saw the film, but that's practically blasphemy, to talk about film versions in a book thread >_<

i just wanted to say that i read The Prophet today. It was absolutely remarkable, so many thanks for Alto's recommending it.

Next will probably be Gormenghast, then probably the Kushiel Legacy.

what, did you think that no-one was gonna read these? =P

@KA - OMG Ender's Game is one of my favorite books evar!!!.

@general - Can't believe I missed the dragonlance convo. I own everyone. Souls was great. Although I enjoyed the original cast (Lance) much more. And yes Souls is after chronicles.

@Regal - Woot!!! Someone's going to read Kushiel's Legacy!!!

Harry Potter Book 7 is dated for July 20-ish of this year. Can't wait for the conclusion.

Honestly, grammatically and as true literary works, Dragonlance is kinda...well...Honestly kinda teh suck.

But if you looking for a good story. They pwn face. Especially if you like classical archtypes. I mean they're easy to predict. But that's part of what's great about them. And they're not so huge that they take up half of you life trying to read one of them.

@Kajak - totally true. The end of Chronicles is the most WTFed ending ever.

@Ix - Harry Potter is kinda... strange. I think the only thing it was good to was to prove that someone can be spoiled without having parents and having a disgustingly troubled life. But that's predictable. As is everything else in that book. Anything that happens, you can be SURE will ultimately relate to the damn boy's past and life. The universe revolves around that damned scar.
And the worse of all is, it began to get good in the 6th book (mwa ha ha ha, people finally die) and I will HAVE to read the 7th to know the end.

By the way, just read Interview with the Vampire and its sequel, and I'm currently reading the sequel to the sequel.
Pretty awesome thing. Though Anne Rice uses the world 'love' more than Tolkien did. And that's hard.

I like Harry Potter, even if you don't like the story, you have to commend Rowling for her wonderful story telling. That's why I love the books so much, she just engages you into the world so well.

Edit- I'm really glad you read The Prophet. It's one of the most amazing books I've ever read.

heh, i'm glad you suggested it. I'd never heard of it before.

Even from the beginning it commenced to blow me away. The section on Giving was probably my favourite. It supported what i've tried many times to convey to both myself and others, and... failed.

I've read it through once. I figure it'll stay with me, like some of the best books do.

anyway, roll on Gormenghast, i guess...

also, i got one of my housemates to preorder Harry Potter for me today XD

they work in a bookstore, so i should get the book sometime early on that day. since i'm in the future and read VERY fast, i strongly suspect i'm gonna have read it first ^__________^

OH NOES SPOILERZ

... but really, would i do that to you? ^_^

would i?

*rofl's*

Dumbledore
pretty much dies killed by Snape
in the 6th book.

This thing about reading fast is funny. I realized I read 5 books in no more than 8 days...

Harry Potter.
Well, I concur with Alt, she is both a prolific imagination and a wonderfully engaging, simplistic storyteller- while not the greatest writer.
*shrug*
I read the first three with a sense of obligation about it, but they're such quick reads I don't really mind. After that the books get succesively better, more of an adult-fiction, though with enough locker-room talk to spoil it for a self-possessed adult.
*shrug*
I could probably read the first three in a day if I had a few hours straight to devote to reading.

Regal- Killer Angels; Civil War novel, pretty damn brilliant, really. A Death In The Family; lyrical and enthralling. Trainspotting (much better than the already decent movie), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (again much better than the already accomplished movie), The Character of Rain; a story concerning the Japanese traditional belief that until three children are creatures of divinity, and that every child undergoes a fall from grace; how a child grows up with such pressure. Short, as well as good; 140 pages.

I'll still save this topic on my HD one day to look back for it later. When the 10 Pratchetts I have left to read end. *shrug*

Anyway, as soon as I end Queen of the Damned (Anne Rice), I'll start 1984, by the same guy who wrote Animal Farm. Great expectations on this one. Anyone read it?

Good Omens is DAH best book of all times.

I mean, it's simply amazing in every aspect.

AND it has a message AND it's actually deep, if you stop to think about it. Neil Gaiman wouldn't be there otherwise.

You can't go wrong with Vonnegut.
*shrug*
And even if you can, you'll probably enjoy it.

i'm reading the Gormenghast Trilogy now. not sure how long it'll take me, since i can only really read it when i feel content that i've done my work and all, which is barely ever.

... i'm about 300 pages in, and saving my opinion to share when i've finished ^__^
