Is this supposed to be some kind of internet intervention?

iPhone is FINALLY coming to Verizon. I almost bought an Android phone too. Now I have to make a choice between the two. I am leaning towards iPhone, but I like what I am seeing on Android.

haha.

Counter-salvos:

First, a letter sent by an attorney to the Cleveland Brown football franchise, circa 1974, threatening litigation.

then

The reply from the Cleveland Browns:

The Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Stadium
Cleveland, OH

Gentlemen:

I am one of your season ticket holders who attends or tries to attend every game. It appears that one of the pastimes of several fans has become the sailing of paper airplanes generally made out of the game program. As you know, there is the risk of serious eye injury and perhaps an ear injury as a result of such airplanes. I am sure that this has been called to your attention and that several of your ushers and policemen witnessed the same.

Please be advised that since you are in a position to control or terminate such action on the part of fans, I will hold you responsible for any injury sustained by any person in my party attending one of your sporting events. It is hoped that this disrespectful and possibly dangerous activity will be terminated.

Very Truly Yours,

Dale O. Cox
Attorney at Law
Roetzel and Andress

Dear Mr. Cox:

Attached is a letter that we received on November 19, 1974. I feel that you should be aware that some asshole is signing your name to stupid letters.

Very Truly Yours,

James N. Bailey
General Counsel
Cleveland Stadium Corporation

you might already be familiar with the Ig Nobel prizes, which are always rather fun.

the below is the abstract of one of the more memorable prizewinners.

Quote:
The Peter Principle Revisited: A Computational Study
Authors: Alessandro Pluchino, Andrea Rapisarda, Cesare Garofalo

"In the late sixties the Canadian psychologist Laurence J. Peter advanced an apparently paradoxical principle, named since then after him, which can be summarized as follows: 'Every new member in a hierarchical organization climbs the hierarchy until he/she reaches his/her level of maximum incompetence'. Despite its apparent unreasonableness, such a principle would realistically act in any organization where the mechanism of promotion rewards the best members and where the mechanism at their new level in the hierarchical structure does not depend on the competence they had at the previous level, usually because the tasks of the levels are very different to each other. Here we show, by means of agent based simulations, that if the latter two features actually hold in a given model of an organization with a hierarchical structure, then not only is the Peter principle unavoidable, but also it yields in turn a significant reduction of the global efficiency of the organization. Within a game theory-like approach, we explore different promotion strategies and we find, counterintuitively, that in order to avoid such an effect the best ways for improving the efficiency of a given organization are either to promote each time an agent at random or to promote randomly the best and the worst members in terms of competence. "

Funny, when I first encountered the Peter principle, I thought the solution big business was missing was simply to demote or re-assign those who have recently shown themselves as incompetent to their new task.

This person, on the other hand, thinks that if your boss has a dead hooker he needs disposed of, you should at least jack off on her first.

furthermore all hookers, living, dead, or otherwise incompetent, should be treated equally.

i think it's a delightful proposition.

the, uhm, randomised promotions, i mean.

Maybe it is. What do I know? I've never jacked off on a dead hooker.

Edit:
do you think maybe we're beating a dead whorse, here?
gah, I had to!

...... Hopefully every last person here can say the same thing.

___________

In other news, there was a disturbing article from Cracked.com this morning on the unintentionally horrific gems one can find in a thrift store ->

http://www.cracked.com/blog/secondhand-nightmares-10-horrifying-thrift-store-finds/

... Although, what NLY just said in his last post certainly tops any of this.

Sweet dreams tonight, children. *exaggerated evil laugh*

So, you know how there tends to be a "tea club" in most high school anime? And somehow that tea club barely gets by/struggles to get new members/is usually very few people?

So, it's student club recruitment week right now on campus so the academic quadrangle is filled to the brim with dozens and dozens and dozens of desks for all the various clubs and, consequently, the whole place is packed with people. But while walking through this mess to one of my classes I happened onto a small gem.

One table sandwiched in between two other busy bustling (christian oriented) tables. At this table, there was only one person - a tiny asian girl sitting reading a book. There was nobody visiting her, nobody signing up to join the club, no fancy banners advertising it. Just a little sign tacked to the table with a drawing of a big tea leaf - "SFU Tea Club. We drink tea together! :3"

My black as night heart was moved to invisible tears.

I am now a member of the tea club.
