So, my fiance used to live out on a mountain a decade ago. A lot of stuff was left there, and she had the urge to go back there and try to find some stuff to take to our new house. Well, we didn't get anything like furnature... but we did get some interesting things.

Back in the day, she used to get action figures. And of the ones she got, we managed to salvage some Final Fantasy 7 and Dragon Ball Z figurines. Now they've been weathered for ten years, so they looked like crap. But I suggested we bring them back anyways. I've spent the better part of the evening with a package of cotton swabs and some rubbing alcohol and cleaned them up rather well.

Here's the first coat of alcohol. You weren't going to be able to see them very well unless I took individual pictures of each one, but I think they look pretty damn good considering.

(Don't ask me how she ended up with two Tifas...)

(5 out of 7 dragonballs... 2 short of a wish, damn.)

Oh, and I found this and HAD to take it. It's an inflatable Vegeta punching bag. He was rather riddled with holes, but I was able to clean and patch him up quite well. He only stayed decently inflated for around 2 hours, but I'll be keeping him for lulz. He even speaks when you hit him... well, he WOULD if I had 3 1.5v batteries.

But yeah, all these are going to go great with my collection of other gaming/manga/anime paraphernalia that I'm sure I've posted some time in the past.

Wow, you're lucky. rubbing alchohol is usually never used to clean toys, only to remove the paint.

and yet the paint stayed.

yes. lucky.

I find it more lucky that no on has noticed yet that Areis' left arm is really the second Tifa's left arm. Areis' orignal arm (as well as her staff) was lost... so I borrowed second Tifa's arm.

A one armed Tifa. If I was an acrotomophiliac, I would be so turned on. >.>

Should've given her Barret's arm.

I'll be finishing up the cleaning today, and I'll probably start straping on all the DBZ characters armor and such as soon as they dry (the only accessory on the FF7 side is Cloud's very strange verison of his buster sword). I'm suprised how well they are cleaning up, specially after ten years out doors under an open shed.

I'm surprised nobody else looted them after ten years of sitting out in the open.

You know, I thought that the second Tifa looked a little different, somehow. But I couldn't quite place a finger on it. I just figured maybe it was a different model. :P

So... how do you know you are a nerd? You never answered that. :P
And I did notice one Tifa was missing an arm... She obviously got a second Tifa in case somebody lost a limb. It was a wise choice.

I guess it's just if you find endless amusement at finding action figures of video game and anime character and actually spend the time restoring them... so that you may be able to show them off. I find that kind of nerdy, at least.

So if a dozen or so action figures makes you a nerd, what does this out-of-date link make me?

and then there's all this crap too.

oh god, all this stuff too.

Yeah, but did you randomly find them all after several years of weathering and bring them back up to a presentable condition? But still this is probably a case where quantity wins. So you are uber-nerd.

Unless it's not nerdy to hold action figures with such esteem. So yeah, whatever that is.

Nah, I've done restoratings before, but nothing that was sitting outside for 10 years. I don't have the patience for that. I'd sooner just replace it.

so that makes you a dedicated nerd.

my... pile, makes me eternally assumed to be a virgin.

Is that specifically what you went back to the house to get, or was it just among the things retrieved?

The only action figures I've ever owned were two Gundam Wing figures I once received as a gift. I'd never even seen the show, though I did look it up after I got the figurines.
I believe they were... the DeathScythe and -- Sandrock?
Something like that.

They were actually fairly expensive, as I remember. Like 90 bucks a pop, Japanese import sh*t. My friend was a cheapskate, and with some pointed inquiry I eventually got it out of him that he'd swiped 'em from his neighbor's mail, which meant he'd sunk about as much money as he did thought into the gift.
I tried to sell them to this kid (I didn't know there were other people who'd pay good money for them at the time, actually) but he said he was only interested in 'Zoids'.

Also, in an abandoned house in a mountainous woodland I once looted a variety of things -- crock pot, air conditioner, miniature 'pig nose' guitar amp you could attach to your belt, electric typewriter, 22 rifle which I restored, and some shed snakeskins which were hanging rather curiously from the ceiling.

Zoids?

Nothing ever produced for either of those gundams ever went above 3000 yen, if memory serves.

You always seem to know the right questions to ask. Yes, knew about their exsistance before we went... but that wasn't the only things we picked up while there. But it was the most interesting.
