But then the article talks about abstrect things that have become "obsolete". At that point I can safely say that they only had a "Top 20" for the sake of not having an odd "Top 13", and couldn't think of anything real to add. I mean, "forgetting" is obsolete? Really? But I shall continue posting my opinions.

I have little doubt that bookstores will become obsolete. But they aren't obsolete, yet. In fact, I just recently went through the effort of buying a physical copy of a book from the publisher, when Amazon was only selling an electronic copy.

What's writing in cursive have to do with wearing a watch? First off, I don't wear a watch. I haven't worn a watch since before I got a cellphone. Second, cursive sucks. You can't read someone else's handwriting without their help.

Asking for directions and carrying around paper maps are increasingly obsolete. Getting lost, while it's becoming increasingly less frequent, is an abstract concept, and thus cannot become obsolete.

Calling has NOT become obsolete, and it never will.

Classifieds in newspapers, same thing. You can't beat having an immediately handy list of local info right in front of you. The only way classifieds in newspapers will become obsolete is if newspapers themselves become obsolete. And honestly, I don't see that happening any time soon.

Dial-up internet... FINALLY, we're back to actual obsolete technology!

CDs are getting close, but I don't think they're quite there yet. I mean, I just got four for Christmas. I don't have an MP3 player. And honestly, I only just recently discovered that individual songs can be bought off Amazon.

I'm among the more than half of Americans with cellphones but not landline phones. Why pay extra? I mean, besides the possibility of the phone going dead.... which for me, would actually be a blessing at times.

Address books, yes. Yellow pages, I have a mixed opinion. I still find them quite handy to use when searching for, say, a local pizza place, but they'll probably only be around until phonebooks go away. If phonebooks go away.

I have never used a fax machine.

I will use wires for as long as I can. I will never use a wireless mouse, if I can help it.

Hand-written letters are still useful if you want to be more personal than digital text. But otherwise, yeah, e-mail is king.

And that's my opinion.

Bookstores won't become obsolete, really, because they provide services which are distinct from their digital counterparts. It's the same argument as physical books going out of print. I have a Kindle and I buy physical books, I have an Amazon account and I frequent bookshops. The market shares may adjust themselves around the changed environment, as they have, but there's no reason to predict, as of right now, that anything will be made obsolete by these changes.
