I think this is great news. Subscription-based models are slowly becoming just plain dead in online gaming. Microtranactions are the way to go, especially since the Portable games have only costumes and lower level, but cool looking weapons/crossovers for sale.

On April 4th I believe, there's also the character creator tool coming out. And beta starts in late April- be sure to opt in if interested, details should be on the same source blog. I'm already in since I got a character past level 10(I actually got all my slots past that in Alpha 2, not that it was hard.:P)
