If you’ve been following the PS3 scene you know team fail0verflow has crippled the PS3 security in its entirety, and with that geohot has shared the keys — the keys that can be used to sign any 3rd party code, meaning custom firmwares and all types of homebrew are heading towards a PS3 near you.

That in mind, with some other hacks, Mathieulh has revealed he is now able to sign anything PSP (he found the KIRK encryption/decryption keys) — I’m talking EBOOTs, prxs, custom firmwares — all signed and headed towards your PSP too.

Picture This from Adventure Star Pictures on Vimeo.

What does all this mean? Well now no hacks are needed for anything really… With these keys we’re able to “sign” anything, and as far as the PSP/PS3 is concerned, it’s official — officially signed as if Sony themselves signed off on it. Pretty cool, huh?

This is awesome.

I can hardly imagine all the things that will be possible because of this.

Home-brew games, hacks of commercial games, custom OS installations, you name it.

Can't wait to see how this develops.

The hacks of commercial games is what's worrying. :P

I think it's funny that I had no idea this was going on with me being a PS3 owner. And you posting this here being someone who has yet to purchase said console. That aside, this is freaking win. I am really looking forward to this.

Well, I am very interested in this as a PSP owner. I love my PSP. Oh and there have been developments developing.

Some homebrews and emulators have been re-released signed for OFW. There are many dev tools popping up too. It won't be long until there is a noob friendly app that signs things for you. Well, better than the limited ones that are out now. I'm talking one to sign ISOs and eboots alike regardless of filesize (or the 'kernel issues' that I haven't investigated enough to comment on). Imagine being able to make eboots of your PS1 titles. Now imagine signing them to play on your OFW PSP!

As it is now, I have to have two PSPs in order to enjoy the benefits of both FWs. Hacked for homebrew and official for online play (Phantasy Star Portable 2) and access to the PSN market place and the titles I download from it. Even if I purchase a PSN title from my PC, as it stands now, I cannot enjoy it on my CFW PSP. Hence the need for two.
