As those of you who kept up with that thread I made around a year ago - "The VG music of SK's soul" - already have been made aware, the character theme of Beatrix from Final Fantasy IX is without a doubt one of the greatest pieces of music of all time in my personal opinion. I just happened to discover that someone who - either self-patronizingly or with true arrogance, I don't know - refers to herself as "katethegreat" on YouTube has developed her own lyrics and instrumentation to "Rose of May". Quite frankly, it is surprisingly brilliant. What I noted in particular is that the lyrics seem strangely appropriate to the mood of the song, whereupon I can just imagine Beatrix singing this to herself on the deck of the Red Rose when she begins to realize the gravity of the sins she has recently committed against the people of other kingdoms in the world.

If this truly is katethegreat's voice and her own invented lyrics in the video, then, holy cow, I may have just fallen in love.

Unfortunately, the video is plagued with horrendously bad fanart, but, hey, that's not the focus. I implore all Final Fantasy fans here (and hopefully that means everyone) to give it a listen.

You know it's a good Final Fantasy if someone goes to the effort of doing something this epic. But she has an amazing voice for this song... and the harmonizing parts sounded spot on.
