For quite a while, I've been thinking on getting either Secret of Mana or Zombies Ate My Neighbors for the Wii's Virtual Console, but after checking out the current selection, there's quite a few other games I'm willing to try out. These are the games I'm considering:

Super NES
Breath of fire II: I've never played a BoF before, and I think I wanted to try this one YEARS ago. I also love RPGs.

Donkey Kong Country: I remember enjoying this game, and was considering giving it another try. Depending on how do I feel about it, I'd get eventually the sequels

Harvest Moon: Again,I have never played a HM game, but I know I will like one if I play it. Is the SNES version good?

Secret of Mana: Played it and finished it with my bro and sis as a kid. It's a classic that I know I like

Super Mario Kart: Mainly for nostalgia, but I think it's low on my list

Zombies Ate My Neighbors: I LOVED this game, but never finished it. Too hard for me back then. PLus, I feel I'd enjoy it more with someone else to play it.

N64

F Zero X: I just love F Zero. And I remember I spent a lot of time unlocking all the cups and the racers

LoZ: Majora's Mask- I have OoT for GC, and I never finished this one. The image of the aliens taking the cow and the girl are still fresh on my mind :cry

I want to get mainly a snes one, but I know some games can feel awkward with a Gamecube controller instead of classic (which I don't have for now)

Now, I'm not exactly asking which one to get, but I was wondering if anybody has something to say about Breath of Fire II or Harvest Moon.

Which one is your favorite?
In my opinion, each of these games would keep me entertained for quite a while, so I don't see myself making a wrong choice but... yeah.

My vote goes to BoF2 since you will be getting a psp and there's a good HM on it as well as a new one coming

That and the SNES one is a bit dated. Feels a lot like Harvest Moon GBC if you ever played that one. Which you haven't.

You really can't go wrong with BoF2.

Secret of Mana... well, Lantis and SK did an LP on that, so you could always watch that if you needed to decide on it.

Breath of Fire II is old-school. That is to say, expect insanely priced equipment. The translation is pretty poor, too. Understandable, but not very clean. That said, it is a decent RPG. While any epic-ness the story might have is lost in translation, it's quite a lengthy quest. You won't beat it in a weekend, that's for sure. Also has a nice variety of characters, including a half-naked cat-girl. It also has an interesting features where you can combine certain characters to make more powerful entities. And it's hard. The random encounters along the way fulfill their duties in weakening you so that the next boss can whomp you. Thankfully, you get to keep any Exp you've gained if you lose in battle. You also lose half your money, but the game has a bank system where you can safely store any extra cash away, so that's no big deal.

Here's one of my favorite bosses from the game:

Donkey Kong Country is pure platforming action. Not much in the way of power-ups, aside from the animal buddies along the way, but it's an enjoyable romp. If you're looking for difficulty, though, I'd actually recommend Donkey Kong Country 2 instead. That game is tough as nails. Heck, late in the game, there's one enemy that can knock away your extra lives without actually killing you.

I HAVE played Secret of Mana, so I know what to expect from it. I was an RPG n00b back then, so it was a bit on the tough side for me (until I spent days trying to figure out the seasonal forest puzzle, lol. We opened the path and never noticed, so we spend a few days just killing everything in sight

Hmm... hard battles, overprices equipment, "keep your exp and half your unbanked money if you lose" system. Sounds kinda like Dragon Quest! And I don't think I'd mind mistranslation.
I'm pretty much convinced on getting BoF2, so far. :D

So DKC2 is harder? I think I played that one more than I did the first one. But I might be inclined to get DKC1 first (Me and my "play them in order if you can" mania)

Having played all of the SNES games listed above, I'll say the following:

Breath of Fire II: It's really your traditional RPG, nothing super original, though it's still a good game. I especially like Ryu's dragon abilities in both SNES games

Donkey Kong Country: It's a great game, though it's pretty short...

Harvest Moon: THIS GAME IS ADDICTING! (As are all the HM games), You will probably spend many manydays playing this if you get it, it's awesome, and there is so much stuff to do.

SoM: You seem to already know about this game, it's a great RPG, fun when single player, and even better when you play multiplayer.

Mario Kart: Yeah, you know.

ZAMN: The game is great, but it is really hard and frustrating. I got it on VC recently cause I used to love the game, and lost interest after about 10 levels of the game.

If you get an SNES game, I recommend either, BoF II, SoM, or HM.

I'm actually playing Secret of Mana currently. It seems to move fairly quickly and the dialogue is a bit terse, however, I read that this is because the translators only had so much space to work with so a lot of the story had to be stripped to the bare essentials. I very much hope that if they ever make a updated port they use a proper translation. I can tell the story wants to be epic and grandiose but the simplicity that is used to tell it detracts from the experience. I mean, I always feel like I'm breaking into a conversation half way through when I talk to people.

Other than that, the battle mechanics are adequate, but I think that as the battles become harder, the...

You know what, I'll say it. An ATBG really has no place in an action RPG.
