I could care less about PS2 backcompat. If I am to get a PS3, THIS is the one I would get, based on what I know so far.

Finally, Sony's back in the game.

I'm still disappointed by no PS2 compatibility, but my friend may pick one up now.

I'm not so bummed about backwards-compatability, anymore. All it would mean is the ability to sell off the old systems. But this wouldn't be the first time I've kept an old console when I got a newer one.

Why are all those prices so similar in number, but so ridiculously different in value?

Some countries are getting a massively better deal than others.

Backwards compatibility is important on the PS3 is crucially important for two reasons.

First is that you can use the memory save system to play RPGM games instead of having to go through the dexdrive, maxdrives, etc. (hopefully you have them by now because you won't be likely to find them).

Second is in case your PS2 can no longer read discs, breaks, etc. Are you then going to go buy another PS2?

So even if the second reason doesn't hold, once the games are all transferred here and at the Pav, you still miss out on the first one.

But someone please clarify for me, are the old models, whichever ones are actually backwards compatible, compatible to both PS1 and PS2?

EDIT: SORRY, I quoted my above post by mistake. I meant to Edit it. Hit the wrong button. Poor hand-eye coordination. Must play more video games.

I'm one of the few who got the first generation PS3's. Mine is compatable with any Playstation game to date (1, 2, and 3). And I've played a rather large number of games on it as well and have had no problem with graphics, lag, controls, ect. Also, doing away with memory cards has been nothing short of extremely conveniant.
