For just thirty bucks it sounds like a damn good deal to me.

The fact that it includes all four original Phantasy Star games has me interested. I'd pay the $30 just for those. (Partly because I payed $40 just for PSIV. :P)

Indeed this is awesome. My friend left it here and I love it. Even though I haven't had a chance to play, just watching other people was enough to make me want to buy this.

I've got the Sonic Mega Collection Plus for PS2. I hardly seen the need for anything else. Wonder why it's called SONIC'S collection when most the titles aren't Sonic titles.

Sonic name sells to old gamers that miss the days of Sonic 2. It worked on my sister in-law.

All the more reason not to just call it "soinc's" collection.

Sonic is still their mascot right? If I was Sega I'd name it Sonic's genesis collection :p

Not really. It's Sega's Genesis Collection. Sonic already has a collection... and it's of Sonic games. Though maybe I'm just kind of missing it here. Mascot or no, it still has very little to do with Sonic.

Than it's there for the cash. But the title doesn't matter, the games matter. The one thing that really bugs me IS THE LACK OF ONLINE PLAY. Ugh, Sega!

They didn't do online play cuz that would cannibalize the market. They already have sonic 1 and 2 for 10 bucks each on xbla with online. So if you wand online for those, that's 20 more dollars for sega.

But it would be nice if Streets of Rage and Golden Axe III had online play for the PS3

Because classic Sonic is the sh*t, man. Seriously. It's like asking people why they don't get over Mario, or any other iconic video game character from back in the day.

Now Sonic's new work, yeah, people should get over that... because it's anything but good.

Looked at the list of games in this collection. Doesn't look much different from Sega Genesis Collection on the PSP, which has a couple titles this one is lacking. Here, I'll have a look at the games list and we'll compare.

Sega Genesis Collection (PSP)
Alex Kidd
Altered Beast
Bonanza Bros.
Columns
Comix Zone
Decap Attack
Ecco The Dolphin
Ecco: Tides Of Time
Ecco Jr. *
Flicky
Gain Ground
Golden Axe
Golden Axe 2
Golden Axe 3
Kid Chameleon
Phantasy Star 2
Phantasy Star 3
Phantasy Star 4
Ristar
Shadow Dancer *
Shinobi 3
Sonic The Hedgehog
Sonic 2
Super Thunder Blade
Sword Of Vermilion *
Vectorman
Vectorman 2
Virtua Fighter 2 *

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Alien Storm *
Altered Beast
Beyond Oasis *
Bonanza Bros.
Columns
Comix Zone
Decap Attack starring Chuck D. Head
Dr. Robotnik's MBM *
Dynamite Headdy *
Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco II: The Tides of Time
E-SWAT *
Fatal Labyrinth *
Flicky
Gain Ground
Golden Axe I
Golden Axe II
Golden Axe III
Kid Chameleon
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium
Ristar
Shining in the Darkness *
Shining Force *
Shining Force 2 *
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Sonic 3D Blast *
Sonic and Knuckles *
Sonic Spinball *
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 *
Streets of Rage *
Streets of Rage 2 *
Streets of Rage 3 *
Super Thunder Blade
Vectorman
Vectorman 2

I put an asterisk after each title that's unique to its collection. Okay, so the bigger one does have the Streets Of Rage series, a complete Sonic collection, and the Shining Force games. It's a better deal. But it's lacking Sword Of Vermilion (probably not that big of a deal).

Personally, I don't need a complete Sonic collection because I already have one, Sonic Mega Collection Plus (PS2). But even that doesn't have a complete collection of Sonic's Game Gear escapades. Good thing I still have a Game Gear and a respectable library for it. The Game Gear was my first love and always will be.

I'm starting to realize that my favorite Genesis games weren't made by Sega. Blades Of Vengeance, Alisia Dragoon, Radical Rex, Alien 3, and many more. Noticed the same about the Atari Anthology, which is lacking my favorite 2600 games from the days of yore. That's something that gets lost from these collections due to licensing issues. The fabled third party titles!, some of which were more fun than anything Sega was doing back in the day. Oh well. At least there's Activision Anthology, a very good collection.

On the topic of Sonic, I've always loved his Game Gear escapades more than his appearances on the Genesis. They have a charm all their own. The levels are smaller and more compact, probably due to the Game Gear's 8-Bit limitations. The Genesis was capable of delivering extremely large levels that I sometimes had difficulty getting through within the 10 minute time limit (especially in Sonic 3 and Knuckles). Sometimes having limitations to work with is a good thing.
