I said I would probably get this game just for the easy-ish achievements and I am a sucker for rhythm games in general. Now that its only 20 new and less used I am wondering if now is the time. All the instruments on 360 are universal between all music games so no need for their crazy drums.

Just curious if anyone has played it.

EDIT 2: The Return of the EDIT

I went down to GameStop and got it just now. Haven't played it yet but I will let you all know what I think tomorrow after work.

Sorry for the double post but in this case I think its worth it. That said here's my thoughts on the Rock Revolution.

This game went from $60 to $20 faster than Enterprise destroyed the historical foundation of Star Trek and the Prime Directive. I mean really? Klingons crash-landing on Earth? WTF Mates?

Anyway, I figured why the hell not and picked it up last night. I haven't spent a lot of time with it but I gotta say, so far so good.

I mean it's in no way on the same level as RockBand but it does have its own quirky charm. The set list is pretty well put together considering it is entirely comprised of cover songs. There is definitely diversity in there as the artists vary from KoRn to Metallica, Iron Maiden to Linkin Park, Dream Theater to blink-182. There's something in there for anyone to love and for that same person to hate. That's fine because I love to play Lacuna Coil and my girlfriend loves to play Avril Lavigne.

The game doesn't come with its own guitar but by now, any avid music gamer or even general fan has at least two guitars. I say that was a smart decision on their part as I never would have bought the bundle after playing the past year on my Les Paul and even my Stratocaster every now and then. I didn't get the drums for two reasons. The first being I have yet to actually see a Konami 7 hit drum set outside of the internet, and secondly, I wouldn't have anywhere to store it as my RB1 drums already took the space next to the love seat. I like the idea of the drums for sure and if I did see them in the store I probably would have thought up a place to put them when not in use as I stare at the ceiling from the couch as my girlfriend would surely have me in the dog house for what she calls "Bleeding Money." I don't know if I like the layout but I like the number of hits. It reminds me of Pop'N'Music and the frantic hitting and in my case, cursing my failures into a bottle of whiskey.

The game doesn't have any singing. So that's something to consider before running out and picking this up. I don't mind the lack of vocal support but it seems a little odd to me considering they have so much experience in Karaoke games. Like the umpteen Karaoke Revolution games they crank out. Maybe they didn't want to cannibalize the market but it will go against them in the fight for band-game dominance. Not that they ever really stood a chance mind you.

The game mechanics are the same overall as any other band game. You have your standard modes of play such as Career and Quickplay. The Career mode is different in that there are challenges at each stage of the game. The challenges are optional but any achievement-wh*re will be sure to complete them all and if at all possible on Expert. Speaking of Expert, I would but the difficulty of this game above Rock Band for sure but maybe on par with Guitar Hero 3. I honestly have been in RB so much more than GH in recent months that I can't fairly judge the difficulty in comparison with GH.

Overall I am very pleased with the purchase. At $20 new, this game is a real bargain. It lacks the charm and style of the other band game giants so if cash is tight by all means save for the better. If you have RockBand or Guitar Hero World Tour, be glad to know that you already made the right choice and went with the better product. Although if you feel like a bit of a break or some relatively easy achievements, your old guitar and drum set are fully compatible with Rock Revolution.
