I am about to mod my XBox360 Memory Unit to have LEDs and my controller as well. The controller isn't for sure yet but the mem unit is.

Here's the mem unit mod. Link

And for the controller, I plan to light up the x,y,a,b and maybe the triggers and start/back buttons too.
Here's the controller mod. Link

Not sure why other than I thought it would be a good place to start before I even consider lighting up my 360 console.

Just got all the tools I need from radioshack.com and the LEDs from moddersmart.com.

I will definitely post pics as I go.

Actually, that sounds awesome. As long as it's not TOO bright as to distract your gaming... and as long as they don't pull enough power to drain your battery quicker. Though utlimately that's going to look pretty damn cool.

What colors did you settle on?

For the mem unit, I still don't know. I ordered 10 each 1.8mm red, green, blue and red and the same in 3mm.

And I forgot to get amber or similar for the 'y' button... but that's fine cuz I might not even do the controller.

But I am also toying with the idea of putting a fan in my guitar with vents near the frets (rockband can be a sweaty game). I have to think about that one a bit more though.

Screw the fans.
I opened up my XBox360 GH3 Les Paul and I know what I want to do.

I decided I want to make duplicate buttons for the frets and also map them to the strum so that strumming is unnecessary when using the new frets. The green and red will be smaller and stacked so that I never have to slide my hand.

I also want to put a simple switch that will disable the tilt control to activate star power. It is a bit too sensitive and I sometimes activate it accidentally. I tend to use the back button anyway. I may duplicate the back button as well and move it to the bottom of the guitar directly below the strum bar, where my index or middle finger tend to rest.

This guitar would make a good beginner guitar now that I think about it.

Here's a simple mock up of what I want to do.

If I can't find a way to remap the buttons on my own, I may just buy a used 20 dollar xplorer and steal the frets and then just place them below the original. Of course I would still map the strum to them as well.

That's a very intersting concept. Though about the unnecessary strum mod. What about those times when there a string of the same note? I mean, are you going to be able to move your pinky at those kinds of speeds that expert will throw at you? I also have a habit of holding down the fret way before the note comes... if it's tied to the strum bar, that would mean I just missed the note.

That's a good point but at those times I just move back up to the original frets. I thought of this mod while trying to play Through the Fire and Flames on expert. So in songs like that it would work just fine. And while its true this isn't extremely thought out yet, the concept is simple and would work when there aren't a million of the same notes in a row. I can see that it isn't very necessary but it would be fun to do non the less.

Indeed it would. I bet you could sell that kind of stuff on ebay for a good penny too. Though I'd have a hard time parting with it, myself. Either way, good luck with said mod.

I decided against the added buttons but rather to see if I can map the strum to the frets with a switch to interrupt the connection when I don't need it.

And I am still going to do the mem unit mod as soon as my solder iron and leds arrive. But first I will be practicing my soldering on an old vcr or radio.

I have been practicing my soldering here and there but with no one with real experience to show me how, I just hit youtube and do what i can. Which isn't much...

SO I still haven't tried to mod my mem unit as I still suck at soldering. More practice is needed.

yeah, I haven't done any soldering in quite some time myself. For some reason, I can't hold my hand still long enough to get a good ammount where it should be. It's kind of like trying screw a motherboard down... cept having to hold still longer.
