First and foremost, this question is not limited to the worlds of RPGs or even action/adventure or shooter games.

Some games may have great looking levels but stupid looking enemies, great character abilities but boring battles, wars, or guilds.

So think in terms of the game ‘worlds’. Are these environments all that spectacular, is that enemy all that intimidating, are these political events all that meaningful, is this character’s abilities all that impressive.

What are the ‘coolest’ gameworlds? Which are the one’s that you say, “man I wish I was really living in that realm (with all those environments, rivals, events, and abilities, for example)â€

Coolest one, IMO, is God of War's. Because it is so marvelously epic. But I wouldn't wish to live there by no means =P Come on, every normal human that appears in that game gets killed in a rather gruesome way in about 2 seconds (except, y'know, those women in your ship, but they don't count =P).

The one I'd be happier living in would be, lessee... Final Fantasy XII. I love that game's design and the setting. The setting way more than the story, actually. The world is beautiful and alive (yay for realistic, huge cities and not just one inn, three shops). Yeah, that world seems pretty much alive. That's my choice. ^^
Speaking of which, I'd die to see how the Gambit System would work in 'real life'. :D

One world I'd love to visit is Delfino Island from Mario Sunshine. Tons of crystal clear water, no man-eating things in it, and just a lot of fun.

The world of Expel from Star Ocean 2. It's such a seemingly nice and peaceful world, .... although there is that one forbidden continent wherein lies a hellish thirteen-floored abyss full of the baddest monsters to ever come down the turnpike.

*sings* We all live in a Pokémon World! *stop singings*

Seriously. I've been wishing I could live in that world for a while. It is so much more interesting than the world we live in, now. Animals in our world can only learn Bite, Scratch, Growl, Howl, Poison Fang, Poison Sting, Horn Attack, and Tail Whip. And to a lesser extent Surf and Fly. Oh, and Attract and other such moves. But none of the more interesting stuff like Flamethrower, Earthquake, and all that other stuff. And Pokémon look more interesting, too. What I wouldn't give to have a Growlithe. Okay, that one is just a tiger dog, but still. And we certainly don't have anything in this world like Legendary Pokémon.

...Unless you count Nessie, Big Foot, Abominal Snowman, and UFOs.

Reign Of Fire

Stipulation: I'm one of the dragons. Life is simple and easy. Burn people
alive, eat ash, and bask in your own badassitude.

Savage Skies

Stipulation 1: I'm one of the dragons.
Stipulation 2: I ain't puttin' up with no wimpy humans riding my back.
Screw that. I'll go it solo. I'd have a nice little lair somewhere, preferably
far away from pesky human civilization. I'd be okay with having a dragon
family with a dragon female, but only if she isn't a nag and lets me have
my space. Occasionally I'd fly out to a human village and burn it down
just for fun because humans suck.

Sonic The Hedgehog

Stipulation: I'm Dr. Robotnik.

Scenario #1: Now first, I'd need an appreciable motive for trying to take
over the world. Since I don't have one, I would fly out to South Island in
my nifty Egg Hovercraft and play checkers and gin rummy with Sonic and
all the cute cuddly animals who live there.

Scenario #2: Assuming I do come up with a decent reason for being a
nasty bad guy and trying to take over the world and all that good stuff, I
would make it my #1 priority to grab all the gold rings and either destroy
them or hide them in my fortress so that Sonic doesn't have a good way
to keep himself protected while I'm firing lasers at him. I'd also make it
my robot army's #1 priority to seek out and destroy all TV monitors in the
land. No, don't go after the blue hedgehog. Destroy his source of power.
Mwahahaha! Yes, I am so evil. Fear me.

Off the top of my head-

Legend of Dragoon: Some of the scenery was just breathtaking. I remember one song (too bad I don't remember the title) that I could honestly sleep to... and I think I did. But it usually always played in these kind of scenes. Also, all the towns were rather cheery.

Illusion of Gaia: The world of Gaia had always seemsed like a wonderful plays to chill. Even some of the dungeons didn't seem like a bad place to kick it every now and then. ^_^

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (within the first day.): Majora's Mask had the feeling like Gnasher portrayed. But even more so because since you had the ability to rewind time, you could know all the happenings. You'd know that around 2:30 the the old lady would walk by the river to wash her close. But also, clear across town, that the merchant was checking in at the inn. You'd know that it would rain about 6:00, and that around midnight, someone would try to rob the bombshop lady in the back of the town. It's like each and every person in that town had their own aggenda instead of the normal RPG's "walk in place and say something about the weather every time you talk to them" lines.

(and of course...) Chrono Trigger: Ah, to ride the ferry from Guardia to Porre. To spend hours in the Millennial Fair and bet on races, chance the drinking game, and spar with Gato. To watch the sunset on Zenan bridge. To take in the view from the Denadoro Mountains. To walk around the floating city of Zeal. To walk around the hunting range in the rain. To spend the night in the forest with nothing more than a fire and conversation. I could go on forever... but I'd better not. ^_^

I am right there with you on most of those worlds. Especially Star Ocean 2 and Legend of Dragoon. Two of my more enjoyable gaming experiences.

I think the Lunar universe would be nice. Baby talking dragons, legendary heroes, great music, and more. I always wanted real sequels to be made but maybe one day still.

Also the Elder Scrolls world. Mostly from Morrowind. I have spent countless hours in that world already. Might as well make it official.

But most of all, Breath of Fire IV. I fell in love with the world of BoF4 since the day it was released. I love just about everything there is to it.

lol, that's fine and all... but I'm afraid I'd end up shooting those blasted baby talking dragons. They irritated the piss out of me.

Oh, and I always thought the world of Fable was quite nice.

Fable is one of the games I curse for not making the transition to PS2 (so I can play) =P

Final Fantasy X-2, anyone? Tropical paradise! And women that change dresses all the time, out in the plains or in the houses or anywhere else!

Chrono Cross... Living in the El Nido islands must be the most relaxing experience of all times. Seriously...

Unless you're one of the 99.9999998% of the population that is a regular civilian who is completely clueless what all that flying energy and stuff is.

Hey, I know one....

The Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion!!!!

The overworld of Tamriel in this fourth installment is one of the most breathtaking lands I have ever had the good fortune of traveling across.

Also, I agree with Ixzion, Delfino Island is the perfect vacation get-a-way. :D

... A wise choice. :lol At least when it comes to the overworld map, Final Fantasy IX's looks the best.

I guess I'd agree with that... but I'd have to say that Xenogears had a pretty darn good worldmap too...

Filgaia! For those who don't know, Filgaia is the Wild ARMs world. It would be crazy awesome to wear those western/anime outfits, and to use an ARM...

Backup choices include the Pokemon world (who doesn't want to live here?) or FF8's world.

Pokemon would rule.

I'd prefer FF10's world, Sin be damned.
