I'm just curious if I should go buy a Slimline PS2. I lost my old big one, and well, I'd like to be able to watch my DVDs and play my games again.

I've heard of issues about the thing overheating if games are played for lengthy amounts of time. Is that true, for anyone that might have one here? Also, have you ever had problems playing DVDs or games with it?

I'd also like to know how well it handles PS1 games and Blue PS2 discs like RPGM2?

I have never had any problems with any of the things mentioned. I play black and blue discs fine as well as cd-r and dvd-r. And my gf uses it as a dvd player on an almost daily basis. One movie has froze on us but admittedly it does have a decent scratch or two on it.

Also specifically about overheating, keep in mind the power supply is external so the heat from that never comes into play. I have played for hours on end and even left it on for over 24 hours without any problems. Yes the machine and discs get warm but I have never come across a single performance issue.

I heard of the heat thing when I first got the slim, so I bought the multitap that the ps2 sits on horizontally and I put a fan into the multitap. But I stopped using it over a year ago as I felt it was truly unnecessary. Yes it gets warm but it always performs fine even in prolonged game-a-thons.

I've owned one too (now SK has it) and neither of us have had a complaint with it. In fact... most of my RM1 game has been made on it... that that's well over 500 hours.

I have both a slim and a big one, and I actually have more problems with the big one.

That is to say, my big one has issues with dvds sometimes and the slim one doesn't. That's the only problem. :P

The slim machine itself never runs very hot, even when on for a particularily long amount of time. Usually about on par with the bigger model. The power adapter can run hot at times, but, that's a different issue.
