Earthbound. Dragon Warrior. Chrono Trigger. Lunar TSSSC. FF1,4,8,X,X-2, Tactics

These are the RPGs that I have played. I have killed Ruby Dragons, and Jumbo Cactuars. I've fought monsters of every decription, and suffered countless deaths at the hands of untold millions of evils' darkest minions.

I mention this because i want my pedegree and palate for fine RPGs to be known.

I bought Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest.

And I don't think it's to bad.

I read reviews online and half say it sucks and half say its ok.

But none say what the game is.

It's a concept. like a car at a motor show. I look at the underlaying mechanics of this game and I see all of the goldenage of RPGS condensed in to only little package. This game represents the very ROOTS of 16 bit roleplaying. It has things that woulden't re appear untill the PS2 era.

If you haven't played it, especaly to the people of this comunity, you should. I definetly see echoes of this game in RM1.

finally, some one who agrees with me on Mystic Quest.

Anyway, I see a few games missing from you list of 'The Best' mainly Lufia 2 and Final Fantasy 6.

I haven't played Mystic Quest, but I usually don't put a lot of weight in reviews. Since there are indeed those who think is game is so perfect it seems it was made by a god, and those who think the game is so bad that is so horrible that anyone who plays it willingly should be shot with a shotgun in the head. (I still read them tho)

I haven't played a few of those RPGs, but definitively Suikoden 2 is my favorite RPG of all time.

Mystic Quest is an RPG with training wheels... at best. I've played it, and was dissapointed. The only games that has the title "Final Fantasy" in it and sucked worse than Mystic Quest was Final Fantasy Legends and Legends II for gameboy.

Actually, you are correct sir. But even so... even if CC is the worst, that doesn't make MQ much better...

They sure did. I have all of them and FF Adventure.
I must say while FFL1 doesn't deserve the FF name, it is a fun game that I enjoy quite a bit. (right now I am stuck searching for the dragon's brother...)

But in all fairness none of those games are truly FF games. They just needed a name that would sell in here in the US.

While I own FFMQ, I have never even put it in my SNES for all the bad things I have heard. I wonder if I should bother unboxing it to try it or if I should just trust common opinion.

I can't remember, was it a jp title renamed for US or was it a US made game?

... Heh heh. I personally like the way you have put this. ^_^

But, I fear myoki is correct; it does seem that you have unfortunately missed out on the second Lufia and Final Fantasy VI (although I do not recall anything like a really difficult "optional" boss existing in either of the two). You should play them if possible. But still, congrats on your other gaming conquests. I, for one, know the horrors of facing something like FF8's Jumbo Cactaur. 10,000 needles to a human being's face just isn't something to laugh about. Ugh ....

Edit: It is probably a bad idea to just leave an untouched game in its box like that just because most others say it sucks, Mr. Insultabot. I personally wasn't fond of it, either, but your opinion might turn out to be different after all. At least try to see if you can get your money's worth out of it, right? :angel

Actually, Lufia 2 had the insanely hard to get to and hard to beat Master Jelly. Which was found at the bottom of the 100 floor Ancient Cave.

... Oh, right. That guy.

I never really attempted to beat the Ancient Cave. Perhaps I should, someday.

Dude, I quit FF6 out of boredom.
But maybe again, I quit 99% of games out of boredom. Perhaps it's just me.
But I mean, you spend hundreds of hours just to get your party right and trained and esper-happy and then suddenly, BAM! everyone's gone and you have a forced, completely new party with those untrained suckahs you didn't bother with earlier. Come back with my characters, you damn story events! Stop plot-twisting! I wanna enjoy what I took so long to train!

... and so on. And that's just World of Balance.
So yeah, FF6 pretty much pissed the hell out of me.

I was only listing the games that I have PLAYED.

And I do have Lufia...I just havent plyed it yet...>_>

(it's "the mysterious castle" one, or something like that.)

MQ is sort of like a cross between Crystalis and Dragon Warrior 1, but on a 16 bit platform.

...So the graphics are better.

(and on a final note, I killed not only the Jumbo Cactuar in FF8 but I toasted the one in FFX-2 as well. :D The one in FFX-2 is easier, but more annoying because you have the normal cactuars helping it out. XP )

Isn't Crystalis active time... which is like /not/ what MQ is?

Crystalis is like The Legend of Zelda. You can use various items and magics on screen any time you wish. In MQ you can use wepons and items on screen anytime you wish as well. However, where the game play differs is that while in the legend of zelda, you can attack enemies if they are next to you, MQ causes you to go in to a "dragon warior"-esque battle mode, where you must fight between 1-3 monsters at a given time, when you interact with onscreen enemies. Enemies don't move, but rather, they are more of an imposition to your progress through a dungeon. Instead of random battles, you must fight field mosters in "battle fields" so in this respect it is also abit like Super Mario Brothers 3/World.

Damn. that gives me an idea for non random battle in RM1. (Sorry, I know this is not the forum for it, but I have to write this out of my system)

Set up dots on a world map in RM 1. have them link to a small pre rendered dungeon. Here, try to program a tactics like CBS where little moster sprites exist. (you could even throw in some switches that check your HP vs. the Enemy type and allow instant distruction if the enemy is weak inrealtion to your current level) You can set it to be durn based where the moster does an action like cast a spell, attack, what not, etc, and then you can respond with a like action, OR you can interact with the monster, and it will take you to a battle (saving you some coding) where you fight a randomly generated amalgum of several monster types. If you defeat the monster, you will have the game send the player back out on to the main "battle page" Or "chatroom" and and you may select another monster, or leave the area. This could also be set up to generat "battle Levels" (Like in MQ) where after all of the "easy" monsters are defeated you move up to more difficult ones, culminating even in a sub-boss fight. After all the battle are done, you could allow the player to enter the area as a save point, and also have some treasure from "the battles" strewn about in chests. This could be a way to award hard to get items, be set on optional map paths for sub-quests or even in as sub areas of the world map that are mainly geared toward getteng from point A to point B.

Ok. Again sorry this blurb is in the wrong forum, but I had to share the idea. :XD
