Now, I'm sure this won't interest anybody who hasn't played FF6 before on either SNES or PS1, but for those who have experienced and loved the classic and its music, I found some videos of FF6 Advance on Youtube, and, well...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcIOPDfA8jc

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a video of the SNES game's opening for comparison's sake, but I'm sure all you FF6 lovers know what it sounded like. Me, I have completely lost interest in FF6 Advance, despite it having a few extras. I knew this wouldn't sound so great. Like I said, there are plenty of FF6 Advance videos on Youtube. If the music in this video doesn't sound crappy enough for you, go check out the other videos.

But maybe the quality's simply suffered due to emulating the game for making the videos.

... You showed this stuff to me last night on the chat... it truely does suck in comparison to the SNES...

I do have an idea I could use though... I have the soundtrack so I could just listen to the real music while the game is on.

Don't you think that's kind of blowing it out of proportion? I mean, you should realize that the GBA isn't as powerful as the SNES anyway.

Besides. For the minor problems, you get to play FF6 anywhere. The fact that you could pull it out of your back pocket on a whim is pretty nice IMHO.

I'd be suprized if it was a perfect emulation anyway. There hansn't been a game on GBA that's been ported yet that is flawless...

Actually, the GBA is more powerful than the SNES. However, in order to perfectly emulate something, the system that does the emulating must be MANY times more powerful than the system to be emulated.

The GBA is like SNES 1.5. That's why we have games like Metroid Fusion, Mario Kart Super Circuit, and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories that look leagues better than SNES.

lol, okay. So I may be wrong in that mannor...

But I still say lower quality is still worth the accessibility.

The portability is a minor point for me. I rarely play on the go. I can never hear the music very well over the sounds of people talking or the radio playing, and I like to hear every single musical note as clearly as possible. I will admit I am overreacting some, but music is a big thing for me, especially with a game that contains my favorite video game soundtrack (I dare not look at the FF6A videos of the ending). If anything, I would've gotten it because of the extras.

Scratch that. I watched the ending video anyway, along with the Metamorphosis video. Even with lower-quality sound, those were still awesome to watch (though the music in the Metamorphosis didn't fade out like it was supposed to). Still, I have no reason to get the Advance game when I still have the SNES game.

That's why I'm going to get it, so I can play it on the go. But the music makes like half the game.

If you're THAT mad with the GBA FF6, you could always buy the game and then download the SNES rom. Not sure if that's legal, but, you will do own the original game.

It's perfectly legal to download and play a rom if you have a hard copy of said game.

My doubt is whether that works inter-console.
Owning a FF6 Advance allows you to download the SNES FF6?

Actually, that's a good question.

If I had to guess, though... I'd have to say no. I just think the ppl who develope the game would actually be that picky.

I'm pretty sure I already said that I own the SNES game. Yeah, I know, "then what's the big deal, you don't HAVE to get the GBA game". Correct, I don't have to get the GBA game, and I won't get the GBA game. I was kinda hoping that FF6's music would be ported over real well, because I'm interested in the extra stuff. But it's no big deal, though.

Really, I'm more torn about Chrono Trigger on SNES vs PS1. Wow, the SNES version sounds great. And no load times. And yet, the PS1 version has those cool anime cutscenes that pop up as you go along. Tough decision.

Yay Chrono Trigger!

I've got CT on rom/snes/and PS... And I can't say I'd care what I played it on. It doesn't bother me one way or another.

I didn't even know CT had a PS1 version O.o

As for FF6's music, I'm not a huge fan of it. I mean, it really is good, one of the best game soundtracks out there. But there are better ones.
I personally would rather listen to Aeris' Theme instead of FF6's World Map Theme. And I'd rather listen to FFX's To Zanarkand instead of Aeris' Theme.

As far as porting goes, I think the GBA is the console with the worst music out there. While graphically it has pearls that outmatch the SNES and almost the PSX (but not quite), musically it's just not good. Right now I can't remember one GBA game with a remarkable music...
