I have played just about all the Final Fantasies, but FF6 will be the one closest to my heart.

It was the first one I played, granted, but the story, the characters, settings, monsters...I just can't forget them.

And can I fail to say, OPERA SCENE? :p

Discuss this, but please, use this code to cover up spoilers:

Code:
FFX Spoiler below:
[color=#444444]Like this.[/color]
End Spoilers.

FFX Spoiler:
There's a character named Tidus.
End Spoilers.

Opera Scene FTW!!!

I can actually play that on the piano... Not well, because I have no clue how to play the piano. But well enough to tell what it is.

I have played every FF title to date besides FFXII... or XI cause MMO's steal souls... or Mystic Quest because I'm not gay... or the FF Legends series for teh same reason I didn't play Mystic Quest.

So all the numeric series I have under my belt (And FFT, and FFTA). And I have to agree with Ixzion. FF7 comes in a VERY close 2nd.

Oh and if you haven't played FF6 on multiplayer yet, you are missing out. It kept me and SK busy for a good while.

This topic will surely become either a FF7 vs FF6 topic or a Kefka vs Sephiroth topic.

But I would have to say FF6 is the best. I just loved the characters (besides Gau, everyone hates Gau right?) And I loved the story. I also think Kefka is one evil bastard.

FFVI Spoiler below:
He actually became god!!!!
End Spoilers.

Final Fantasy IX is the best one, although IV through X are legendary as well (I haven't really played I through III to make an accurate judgment on them).

... Of course .... The opera scene in FFVI. Who doesn't remember that one?

I couldn't get into 6....Maybe it was because I played on playstation, but it was slow and boring to me.

In fact, I hate most final fantasy games except for 7 and Tactis.

And, final fantasy legends isn't a FF title. It's actually part of the SaGa series, which I enjoy.

How can you hate Gau? His quest in the World of Ruin was probably the most heartwarming subquest in the game.

There's a pretty good chance it was because you played it on the Playstation. It simply was not ported very well. The music suffered some, sounding lower-quality than the SNES version. There's slowdown when you do the littlest thing in battle, where the SNES game's battles ran pretty quickly. And of course, there's the horrible load times, whether you're going in/out of battle, moving between maps, or even opening the menu. I read that the load times put the ending theme out of synch, and that sorta ruins the otherwise best-ending-out-of-all-the-FFs. I would seriously recommend finding the SNES copy (which, as far as features goes, lacks the cool FMV intro and extras menu that the PS1 version had). Or wait for the GBA release, but who knows what Square will do with that, after what they did with the other GBA FF releases.

Anyway, my fave is FF4. Partly because it was my second FF. It beats out my first, FF7, because FF7 wasn't mine, and I never played past the Mako reactor before playing FF4. I first played it on the SNES, and it was a very frequent rental (right up there with Super Mario Kart). I actually got as far as aquiring the Lunar Whale during one of the two-day rentals. Too bad I got lost after that and couldn't figure out where to land that big thing.

My second-fave (but the best FF IMO) would be FF6. Awesome story, awesome music, and of course, the best ending in an FF so far.

Third-fave, FF9. Along with having some interesting dungeons and sequences, and a challenging battle system (it's so not fun getting inflicted with Trouble), it took place in a chibi anthropomorphic world. And the main character had a tail.

The dumbest thing about FF9 was the Trances. Wanna save a supermove for the boss?

Oopsie, it activated at the end of a regular fight. Tee hee.

The really slow ATB guages (even on the fastest setting) and the frajile limit breaks (even defending uses the Trance guage up, and yet there's no extra effect) are pretty much the reasons why FF9 is a distant third compared to how close FF4 and 6 are.

You're missing out. At the very least, you really need to find FF6, either the SNES version (numbered 3 because of out-of-orderness releases in the US) or the upcoming GBA version. (Not the PS1 version. It sucks.) Along with the reasons mentioned above, it's also got the largest playable cast out of all the FF games; a whopping 14, though two don't get much character development because of how late into the game they appear, and two more are secret characters that didn't hold any real importance, though they were in the ending. It's also got the most summons. 20, I think? I dunno, I never counted. And the story has enough to interest, plenty of excitement, plenty of emotional moments (with the best emotional music ever), some very hectic moments (some of course caused by perhaps the most deadly and ruthless villain in the FF series), and the opera sequence that you take part in (which has one of the most emotional songs in the game, so long as you don't mind the 16-bit vocals of "Oooh-oooh-ooooooh-ooooooooh").

lmfao... I love you, man.

But anyway...

IMHO, I thought the storyline for X-2 sucked. The was the game set up as far as the world map and all sucked. I think the name of the battle system, "dress-sphere" sucked. But you know what? I think the actual battle system was on of the best EVER. A job class system with ative time gauging. AND the jobs are interchangable mid-battle. That led up for some AWESOME stratagies. It was like mixing Tactics with FF7.

I hope they bring that system back one day... maybe call it something a little more straight than 'dress-sphere' though.

FFIX.

The story was brilliant.
The sidequests were original.
The romance incomparable.

However, X I could say the same concerning, I merely played IX first.

After that I merely slump 4&6 into one favourite which requires neither explanation nor bothering on.
You all understand why, I'm sure.

The others come up even.
I merely enjoy the series immensely, I even found some enjoyment from X2, though I was fairly disoriented from disappointment

I agree that X2 was rather disappointing... Because I always will believe that the story is basically the aspect that is, in fact, the games its self. Without a good story, you don't have a game.

But X2's battle system was incredible... I've only played through once, and a may not ever again. As stated, I can just hope they bring back that battle system in one way or another.

I have no problem with things that are generic when they both prompted the slew of imitations that made it generic, and still manage to do it exceedingly well in spite of the impending slews.
