The Final Fantasy V Four Job Fiesta

Starting: June 12
Ending: September 1

Last year, Fayorei and I participated in an annual event for Child's Play Charity known as the Final Fantasy V Four Job Fiesta (FFVFJF or just FJF). The basic gist is that starting in mid June, and ending at the beginning of September, tons of people play through Final Fantasy V (Either the SNES, PS1, GBA, iOS, or now the Steam version) with one extra caveat: You are only allowed to use four of the game's 22 original jobs.

This year, Fay and I are both going to be doing the event again, and I know for certain that Lantis is also going to participate, so I figured we'd make this thread to share our progress once the event starts, as well as to inform everyone else about this cool thing.

The Fiesta raised over $15,000 for Child's Play Charity last year, and as of my writing this, they've raised over $6,000 this year, and the event doesn't even start for over a week.

All that's required to participate is a Twitter account (you can make one and throw it away once you're finished if you wish), and a way to play the game, and take a screenshot or picture of the final boss being defeated should you emerge victorious.

Play Types

http://fourjobfiesta.com/help.php

All of the descriptions and instructions of the different runs types and rules can be found in that link there, but I'll go ahead and describe the three basic types of playthroughs you can do:

Regular: At each of the four crystals, you will be assigned a single job from that job set which you may use. Of the current jobs you have available, you must always have one of each assigned to a character. For instance, last year, my first job was Monk, so until I reached the second crystal, I had to play with 4 monks.

Random: At each of the four crystals, you will be assigned a job from the set of all currently accessible jobs, so you could potentially be assigned two or more jobs fromt he same crystal.

Chaos: At each crystal, you will be assigned a job from all of the jobs in the game (aside from Freelancer and Mime), this means that you could potentially to play without any jobs until late in the game, when your selected jobs become available.

On top of these main play types, there are several other modifiers you can add to your run, most importantly BERKERSER RISK which is only available before the event starts. For every $10 raised before the start of the event, one player with BERSERKER RISK in their run will be assigned a Berserker as one of their jobs. Last year, several people ended up finished the game using only four Berserkers and nothing else.

I think I've covered most of everything that needs to be said. Hopefully more people from the Mag than just Fayorei, Lantis, and I will participate this year, it's a ton of fun, and lets you really experience the cool synergies between the jobs in Final Fantasy V without having to worry about min-maxing the game.

I'll end this with another link to the Fiesta website where you can register, as well as an infographic from last year's Fiesta.

I've signed up and have already played up to the wind crystal. Unfortunately, by the time the event starts, I'll probably still be playing PoE, and soon after leave for a week long vacation. I'll pick it up after I get back though. This will be my first year participating.

Some speed runners will be racing a FJF run this Saturday. Once I know what channel is hosting it (probably RPGLimitBreak) I'll post more info. Should be a good watch.

The fiesta has been going on for a few days now, and I've made a fair bit of progress. In particular, all four of jobs have been chosen for my Random run:

I got Knight for my first crystal, making the first few areas and bosses extremely mindless, but easy, just spamming the attack command constantly.

For my second crystal, I got Time Mage, this is the first time I've gotten a truly magic capable class in the fiesta, and it's been a great boon being able to break elemental rods to deal massive damage to bosses. Not to mention Haste and Slow are amazing by themselves.

My third crystal gave me Thief, which... Could have been worse I guess? I guess it's alright, being able to steal items is a decent enough power, as well as not getting back attacked anymore, and being able to escape from problem battles with ease. I think the Thief will truly shine in my ability to steal the Genji equipment from Gilgamesh later on, giving my Knight some of the best armor in the game.

For my final crystal, I got Bard, which I also got last year, and I can't be more happy. Bard is so incredibly broken, there's very little downside to one, and it's going to make so many future battles way easier.

I finished my first run of the season tonight. Neo-Exdeath put up a very tough fight. I had forgotten that once he gets down to his final moments, he starts to cast Meteo as much as he can, and boy does it hurt.

Sadly, Lenna was berserked by his status inducing attack, and thus I was unable to control her and she died shortly before I killed him. But last year, she was my only party member left alive, so maybe it's fitting.

I want to do atleast one more playthrough, with a different run type, probably Chaos before the season is over, but I'm unsure of when I'll get started on that.

My run has been going pretty good. It started out rough until I was told the joys of the Beastmaster's ability to cast Bearaga.

Along with beastmaster, I ended up with a knight, mystic knight, and chemist. And man am I glad to have that chemist. Mystic knight is also making short work of quite a few bosses.

I currently just picked Lenna back up in world 3, so I'm open to do some optional stuff. I'm going to pick up the chicken knife and excalibur, probably get holy and flare for my mystic knights as well. With the steam sales going on and games I'm planning on getting, I don't know if I'll be doing a second run any time soon. But if I do, I'll probably run the newly added pure chaos.
