So I decided to do this thing where I mention what's been mentioned in today's Nintendo Direct, on account most of y'all are at work when this happens.

First off, nothing on NX. If I had to guess, Nintendo won't talk about NX until E3.

Star Fox Zero, again. Miyamoto talking about it. Progression in the game is similar to Star Fox 64. Katt is returning from Star Fox 64. Two player mode where one person flies and the other person aims. Fox Amiibo unlocks the SNES Arwing.

Star Fox Guard. It's one of those "use multiple cameras to keep an eye on enemies" games. Will come packaged with Star Fox Zero. Both are "ready".

Splatoon updates aren't over. Improvements to certain gear abilities. Adjustments to matchmaking. Updates March 8th. More weapons in April.

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Has Rugby. And wand...dancing?

Super Mario Maker. 6.2 million courses have been made. Shaking a thwomp turns it into one of those spiked columns from Mario World. Keys are now in the game, which allows for mandatory boss fights. Super Expert mode now available in 100 Mario Challenge. Available March 9th.

Fire Emblem x whatever the other game is. The game "oozes style". All the Japanese voice acting will remain, and simply get subtitled. "Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE" is the offician name.

Lost Reavers. Co-op game where you're exploring ruins or something.

Paper Mario Color Splash. Paint-themed. The world is being drained of its color. Paint hammer splashes paint. Wii U. You can paint cards to use attacks. It basically looks like Sticker Star, just with a paint theme instead of a sticker theme.

Pokken Tournament. Basically Tekken, but with Pokemon. Not a significant collection of monsters to use.

Twilight Princess HD. Releases tomorrow.

My Nintendo points program. Miitomo is first app or something.

Mario & Friends Amiibo Challenge. Basically use your amiibos to unlock Mario vs DK Minis levels.

More Animal Crossing Amiibo cards coming June 10.

New Nintendo 3Ds will be getting a variety of classic SNES games, including Mario World, DKC, Earthbound, Zelda, and Super Metroid.

Pocket Card Jockey. Play Solitaire to win horse races. Horse breeding. 3DS.

Azure Striker Guvbolt 2. Reminds me of Gunstar Heroes and Mega Man X. 3DS this summer.

Fire Emblem Fates DLC. "Revelation Path", which opens at the end of Chapter 6. New maps coming.

Hyrule Warrior Legends. 3DS. Will have DLC like the Wii U version game did. Buy Season Pass to get Ganondorf costume. It will be possible to play the new 3DS characters in the Wii U game. Medli from Wind Waker will be playable in both versions.

Disney Art Academy. Teaches you how to draw Disney and Pixar characters. 3DS. May 13th.

Bravely Second. Wizards can customize spells. Catmancer is like Blue Mage, except trains cats to use the blue magic. Free Demo March 10th. Has exclusive content, kinda like the demo of FF15 did. Art book for pre-ordering or something. Nintendo will be showing the game off more.

Dragon Quest 7. 3DS. Rebuilt from the ground up, and retranslated. Piece fragments of tablets together to go back to the past to save islands that were removed from history.

Monster Hunger Generations. "Most customizable Monster Hunter ever." New trailer. Giant monsters are the focal point. Go figure. Summer 2016. Anybody who plays Generations with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will recieve bonus content. 3DS. Marth armor coming. Summer 2016.

Metroid Prime Federation Force. Nintendo is aware it left people confused. They're explaining why it's important to the franchise. Development started 2009 on the DSi. Story of Galactic Federation vs. Space Pirates, which has never been explored in previous games. Samus could not be the main character for this story. You can choose basic job classes. You can choose weapons and items before each mission. Not gonna talk about "Blast Ball". This game "absolutely belongs in the Metroid univserse". New trailer. Takes place after all that Phazon stuff. Gameplay pretty much looks like the Prime games, albiet mostly combat-focused. Late Spring 2016.

Rythym Heaven Megamix. Contains both classic rhythm games (like that wrestler one) as well as new games.

Kirby. Dream Land has been mechanized. Jump between foreground and background. Old and new copy abilities. Can take over enemy tech, including robot suits. The robot suits can also use copy abilities and store them as "modes". "Team Kirby Clash" included as co-op mode, with experience and levels, fighting bosses mostly it seems. Amiibo will give copy powers, like Mario gives fire power. New Kirby Series Amiibo. UFO power can only be obtained with these.

Starfox was cool, as is SNES games on New 3DS (not that I own one).

The whole Federation Force thing was a glorious disaster. They're trying so hard to make people care about it, and no matter how decent the game actually looks, it's not going to work.

Honestly though, of all the games shown the only game I am actually interested in buying is Rhythm Heaven of all things.

I was sure they would have mentioned bringing Mother 3 to the VC seeing as it's the 10 year anniversary of the game, and they are still trying to hype up the fact that Earthbound is on there, but whatevs.

My reactions:

Star Fox Zero + Star Fox Guard: A bit sad that it's a re-reboot of the series, but the game play will determine how good it is. Meh on Guard.

Splatoon updates - Still have yet to even play this online.

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games - Meh. And the "wand dancing" you mentioned is rhythmic gymnastics, Dray.

Super Mario Maker - Super Expert is what I was calling for. Here's hoping that Expert becomes more balanced as a result.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE - Totally not what I was expecting, but will definitely check it out.

Lost Reavers - No.

Paper Mario Color Splash - The new Federation Force in terms of negative reception.

Pokken Tournament - Skip.

Twilight Princess HD - My copy's been shipped!

My Nintendo points program - If this is mobile only that is going to suck.

Oh, I wasn't aware of that Direct. Gotta check that thing about Hyrule Warriors!

I'm over Samus not being the main character. But the chibi characters still throw me off. This is seriously supposed to be taken as part of the Metroid canon?

By the way, the direct in Japan showed a little more of Paper Mario. And yeah, it is basically Sticker Star 2. Apparently Sticker Star sold so well that Nintendo decided that meant people like it that way, without paying attention to negative reaction. Well, I bet they're noticing the negative reaction now. =P
