You know, without looking at wikia for answers, I gotta ask:

To the people here who have played or still play Chrono Cross, ... what the hell is FATE? Seriously, who is he/she/it? Is he Lynx, is he Serge, is he a super-computer, is he some metaphorical unseen part of the hearts or spirits of each and every creature who lives in the Chrono Cross universe, what? And what, exactly, was his purpose?


So, if anyone has an answer that won't make the story sound more retarded than it already is, I'm all ears.

You all know mine already. The biggest offenders to me are Parasite Eve 3, Bioshock Infinite, Ultima IX, and that Final Fantasy title that shall not be named but earned me the scathing review comment of being a Final-Fantasy-hating-****sucker.

The dumbest video game story to me is Final Fantasy 7. Aeris is killed by a metrosexual. WHAT? White and Black materia? Uh, a little racist? Sephiroth obviously has a Oedipal problem as he wants to have sex with his mom.

That's a better explanation than what the game gave to my memory. Because I don't remember it really giving one that was discernible. Something about a giant computer that somehow controls the world's future down to the last detail? ... Maybe?

I'm probably in the minority on this but I feel that the plots of Mario & Luigis: Partners in Time and Bowser's Inside Story weren't necessarily stupid, but they were definitely ridiculous. Bowser hijacked the plot for the MacGuffins halfway through PiT so they just gave them all to you at the end and BiS was a case of, "They made it up as they went along."

I hate to say this, but FFVIII. Awesome SQUALL WAS DEAD THE WHOLE TIME theories aside, that game makes little to no sense AT ALL. It never has, it never will. Even if I do like it a pretty great deal.

You're right. It seems people like to really hate on the junctioning system more so than the story, which I simply just don't get. I mean, it was weird and took some getting used to. But there's no getting used to the story of FF8. It's just a mish-mash of unconnected plot points.

But it is still better than Chrono Cross... which is somehow still better than Parasite Eve 3. I won't get into that though. I wouldn't be able to stop if I started.

As for FF8, its plot is nonsense, but it's nonsense I can enjoy.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a video game plot that I actually hated. Typically the games I've disliked, I've disliked for their gameplay. Odin Sphere? Gameplay. Mario & Luigi: Parners in Time? Gameplay. Pokemon Collesium? Gameplay.

How is the Metal Gear series not the first game mentioned in this thread?

We'll never stop bringing it up to each other at random in gmail chat, though. Because every now and then, it just ... occurs to you how bad it is. And even though it's been said 300 times before, you still have to say it then. Or at least I do.
