Not much of an announcement, 'cause it's basically the equivelant of them saying they're working on another Mario game. Well, duh.

But I'm kinda curious what the "new concept" is. Wii brought motion controls, and Wii U brought touch screen support (that admittedly was done by the DS first). You gotta wonder what's next.

Also gotta wonder what caused the Wii U to fail so hard that they felt like they had to make this announcement. I mean, it's a Wiinner in my book.

They made the announcement during their press release the other day where they revealed that they were teaming up with Japanese mobile developer DeNA to make mobile Nintendo games.

Iwata wanted it to be clear that Nintendo was not leaving the console business in order to focus on mobile gaming, and so he mentioned that Nintendo is working on it's next console to show that.

It had nothing to do, at least not directly, with the Wii U not performing well.

You can never trust gaming news sites. =P

Gotta love how they continue to claim, "Nintendo is dying!" when Sony is the one currently closing departments and every iteration of the XBox has been an absolute failure in Japan.

Makes me wonder how this is going to turn out.

As for Sony closing down departments, it's rather just the departments not doing well. Their Computer Entertainment department that the PlayStation is under is doing very well atm.
