So I played the demo that came out yesterday, and I like it. It looks like a strat-rpg when you look at the battlefield you're on, and the battles are like a mix of RPG and Fighting games. The cast of characters is huge, some from other video games, some from anime (I think??). All the voice acting is in Japanese, but the text is in English, which is nice. Overall, I like how the game plays and I will be purchasing this on its release date, which is June 25th.

Every time I go to Gamestop, they ask me if I want to reserve it. I really don't have any interest in it though, especially since SMT4 comes out only a few weeks later, which will eat all of my time.

I might pick it up later, once it goes down in price though.

I really like the spread of game/anime franchises. And I'm always up for strat RPGs and the gameplay looks sick. I'll be getting this.

I've put in my order of the game with Amazon and I should get it the day it releases. I'm looking forward to it.

So I'll get to play in on July 3rd when I get home from Indiana

What the cluck? I just found out John McClane is in this. Well, he's not exactly John McClane due to licensing issues but, nope, that's indeed John McClane and that alone has me interested in this game.

Over the past few days I've been playing X Zone. As far as the battle system goes, it's a direct copy and past from Valkyrie Profile. And that's a good thing. Not a lot of people actually played that game. But it's quite literally identical, and I freaking love it. You have a few different moves you can preform in a turn. And you have to time the right if you want all the hits to connect. Too soon, and a bunch of hits won't land. Too late, and they could also miss. Not only are you rewarded with higher damage with well-timed hits, but you fill up a bar. Get it filled to a certain point gives you an ultra attack. For those familiar with VP, that would be Lenneth's Nibelung Valesti.

Anyways, VP was a turn based RPG, but the battle system translates to strat amazingly. Being able to customize groups of uints and positioning them so that assist moves and all that makes it all come together. At first it's a lot to take in visually, but as you play, you get used to the attacks and when you should get the assists and solo attacks going. When you are attacked by an enemy, you can use the points you've been collection towards your ultra to counter attack, defend some damage, defend ALL damage, or nothing. Nothing being what I usually go for so I can save up for those oh-so-pleasing ultra attacks. And if a unit dies, you can spend the same cost as an ultra to revive them. Though that hasn't happened yet. In fact, if I had any negative thing to say about the game, is that it's FAR too easy. I'm on chapter 5, and I've not had a single unit come close to dying. Only using the defend all option when near bosses. I'm expecting a bit of a curve to the difficulty before to long.

As far as the story goes, it's just a huge joke. Like everything said is just SO tongue-in-cheek. And that's fine... I find it very entertaining. And it IS a lot different than say, Kingdom Hearts who has a story that tries to make its self super serious and fails at being good in any aspect even when you overlook all the Disney and Square crossing over. But I think I could at least over look it if the combat was as good as X Zone's.

Strategy with unit placement is big too, and pairing up weaker units with a solo units. I've found that keeping units in groups helps a lot, especially against enemies with break bars. It's also good to keep units close in level otherwise you'll find yourself in bad shape. I'm in chapter 17 or 18 now and have almost every character. I love having Yuri. This game is fun, even though I've found it kind of easy. It's just all about knowing how to pair up units. But good grief, it takes so long to get through 50+ enemies. I'm loving the game though.

I'm up to chapter 21, but the battles just keep getting longer and longer. 20 took me about 1.5 hours to beat. And they keep getting longer. I like the game, but the battle length can sometimes be annoying.

Lot of strat RPGs can get like that. Just random encounters in FFT can take 30 plus minutes.

Not that far yet, but that's alright with me. I've been playing it alongside Animal Crossing. So far, I've basically just been keeping all my units evenly leveled, and that's fine by me. I also find myself chuckling at some of the dialogue... specifically the part in the .Hack bit where they break the 4th wall about "services" being in a game and if kids should play something like that(coughcough kinda reference to this game with BOOBS AHOY). I don't mind the fanservice(it is a fanservice game after all), but I do chuckle every single time Morrigan makes an advance on like every single new party member and they usually just completely ignore her. I also ship the Sakura Wars girls, haha. They're cute together.

One thing I find is that I'm not finding very many useful equips yet. But I imagine that will change later moreso.

And I like how Frank West always has to take pictures of all the female antagonists in the game... and they always end up "perfect: erotica."
