I'm not sure if any of you guys have ever played Torchlight, but Torchlight II just came out recently. For $20 on Steam, if you want a solid dungeon crawling lootfest, it's totally worth a buy, and also features online multiplayer up to 6 players.

If you aren't sure what Torchlight is, it's basically the same thing as Diablo.

It's made by Runic games, which was founded by Travis Baldree (the creator of Fate, a very good Diablo clone), as well as Erich and Max Schaefer, the founders of Blizzard North and the original creators of both Diablo 1 and Diablo 2.

I feel Lantis and Fayorei might be really interested in playing, it's pretty much everything Diablo 3 should have been.

You may want to hold off on purchasing right now though, because I'm sure that eventually an XBLA port will be released, as was done with with the original Torchlight.

That is all.

Edit: I'd also like to say that the developers are allowing players to basically do what they want with the game, as is the case with many Steam games. This means that you don't have to wait on Runic to release patches or expansions, the players themselves can make their own dungeons, quests, characters classes or whatever they want and release it themselves.

I did play Torchlight, I have it on the XBLA and PC/Mac... but man, I already have way too many games, haha. With leveling! Guild Wars 2, Mists of Pandaria, and Borderlands 2(which has been winning the game time war recently).

But I do definitely want to pick this game up eventually. It's basically Diablo... but way better than Diablo 3. Which makes sense considering. It's more than likely better considered to be the true spiritual successor to D2. But, I have heard GREAT things about it... like how while it tries nothing new to the genre, it brings it to its finest point with polish.

I'm curious to see what you think of it, since you were a huge D2 fan.:)

Also this, love these guys.

I also forgot that, hey, YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE ONLINE TO PLAY. So this is more Ixz-patible too, on that standpoint. Well.. actually maybe not because it's on Steam.:P Unless there is a magic way to play Steam games offline.:P But I imagine this one will eventually end up on XBLA, too(just way later). And, I forgot- you can buy it off the official site anyways and not use Steam with it.

The game developers are also much more loose than Blizzard about stuff, which is nice. Meaning, they support modding, etc, more. I actually felt a bit dirty buying D3, even though I had fun with it since the D2 guys have mainly moved to Torchlight.:P

I'm really convinced at this point, for definitely. But I just need time to go ahead and clear some back-log-age. Including finishing Torchlight itself. I do like the 360 version- blasphemy, I know, but I do get tired of click to move sometimes, and basically I started playing this genre of games on a console over at a friends house, haha.

For sure, I think we all have a lot of stuff to play already. Ixz, Lantis and I just finished playthrough 1 of BL2, and I guess will be starting on True Vault Hunter Mode soon.

Also RE6 just came out.

When we all have the time though, I'm sure this will be a blast, especially for 20 bucks.

I'm nowhere near done with my first BL2 playthrough, haha. I do need to actually read the beautious limited strategy guide and finish up the vault symbols, etc, that I can actually get to at this time.

This is also pretty cool.

I think this would be a great game for us to go through together. The whole D3 thing didn't work out as well as I was hoping as far as co-op was concerned. If this drops for XBLA, then we'd have more than enough people to play seeing as SOME people's computers aren't up to snuff.

But yeah, D3 was the first game of that genre I really got immersed in, and I really liked it. So I'm totally down for this at some point.

In terms of PC playability, I don't think many of us should have any problems being able to play it.

I was barely able to play Diablo 3 on the lowest settings, as in, the game would lag horribly on occasion, but from what I've played of Torchlight 2, on medium settings, I'm able to play without any lag.

Interesting. A few days ago I was checking that game out here: http://torchlight2.perfectworld.com/

and I was wondering if it would be worth to get it. (On PC I mean. I have no 360)

edit: I guess the link above is the way to play it offline?

Hurray! Good to hear. Torchlight 1 ran fine on my Macbook Pro and my Windows laptop, though admittedly both have lower end, yet dedicated video cards.

D3 is harder to run and I have to use low settings unless I play on my actual gaming desktop that I have connected to a TV. But I'm usually on a laptop, haha.

Also, Guarionex- you can buy this game play offline using either Paypal or Google Checkout on the main site here:
http://www.torchlight2game.com/

There's also a free demo. No Mac support yet, but it's in the pipeline it seems. And, of course if you nab it on Steam you'll have to be online to sign in to your Steam account to play it. So if you want total offline-ness, just buy it direct.:)

Also, on their news page- they are offering the full OST download from the game for free:

Oh god the OST. It's composed by Matt Uelmen, the same guy that did the music for Diablo 1 and 2, as well as Starcraft and Burning Crusade. The music is so clucking good.

I actually bought after posting in this thread. Sadly, my internet speed got cut off halfway through the download. I guess I'll visit the nearest wi fi hotspot tomorrow after work. :tdown

I downloaded it today! I don't know if the controls are EXACTLY like Diablo or not (never played it) but it took me a while to figure out how to do stuff :lol
I guess I'll be toying around with character classes for a bit.

I've been meaning to get back at it. :D
I'll probably be making a new character since I can't just pick an old character after a long time of being unused. :S
But I could join you.

You can't? That's weird, mine can run it just fine. My only issue is that while it can be played offline, you need to be online to open it at least.

Anyway, myoky, will you be playing in the Normal difficulty? I'll probably go for an embermange or an outlander. My old character was a mage so I might go for outlander instead. *shrugs*

I'll recheck the specs requirements. If I get it I'll certainly join yall.

EDIT: It runs! Cool, already started my character, Duelpro along with my pet, Booboo.

Love the pet name Duel!

I have had Torchlight II for like a month(I got it on some kinda Steam sale for $10), but I have not started a character yet. I am thinking Berserker... if that was the classic name... the dual-wielding type one. Yeah, cause I love that stuff.:)

My original character was an embermage called Artheron, but I think I made it on casual difficulty. Not zure if I cN switch the difficulty but as I said, I'll probably start new one anyway.

EDIT: WAIT! My embermage is in normal mode! Yay! He's a lvl 33 Lightning mage with a cute Phanter for pet named Aster (Both names taken from my Forsaken World characters)
But I'll be still starting an Outlander character named (gasps) Guarionex with his trusty pet Coqui so I can bring any of those to the fray.

The Outlander class looked good but I chose Berserker.I'm. Certain that's the game's melee/warrior-esque class. I always choose warriors in RPGs, its just my thing.

The look of the gane is nice, seems like a straight up dungeon crawler. I like that.
