Out of all the games you've ever played, what's your top five? But to give these lists some variety, you can only have one game per genre. The five genres are yours to pick. The games you do pick don't necessarily need to be in any particular order. Feel free to explain your picks as well.

Chrono Trigger - RPG
Devil May Cry 3 - Beat'em up
Beyond Good and Evil - Advenutre
Sonic 3 and Knuckles - Platformer
Resident Evil 5 - Action shooter (?)

Mine are fairly predictable as I usually don't shut up about games I like. As far as adventure goes, Beyond Good and Evil barely beat out Darksiders or one of the many awesome Zelda titles. I was fighting really hard for platformer, so much so that I was going to replace it with a different genre all together. But I'm happy with it. As for Resident Evil. Yeah, I actually like 5 more than 4. But even then, it just barely beat out Dead Space. If it wasn't for the awesome co-op, Dead Space 2 would probably get it... which is actually why I'm super excited for Dead Space 3. Also, I'm not really sure of the genre here. I guess I could get away with calling it a third person shooter. Not so much survival horror anymore.

But yeah, that's mine at the moment.

Lufia 2 - RPG
Shadow of the Colossus - Adventure
Megaman X - Platformer
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations - Visual Novel/Point and Click?
Tetris Attack - Puzzle

OK, this was a lot harder than I was expecting it to be, especially considering that probably 80-90% of my game collection are RPGS. Lufia 2 won't come as a surprise to most people, but after that I wanted to have games from genres that I don't normally talk about. I had a really hard time deciding between Zelda: A Link to the Past and Shadow of the Colossus when it came to adventure. Megaman X is by far my favorite platform game, it's one of those games I could play everyday and not get tired of it. After that, I went for more obscure genres. Phoenix Wright... I'm not even really sure what genre it is, it's like two parts visual novel, one part point and click adventure, but still, one o my favorite games of all time. Tetris Attack, I'm sure there's at least one person here who can back me up on how awesome Tetris Attack is.

My Top 5 Games (as of now) are the following:

1) Super Mario RPG
2) Kirby Super Star
3) Super Mario Bros. 3
4) Donkey Kong 64
5) Banjo-Kazooie

I will admit, choosing 5 was rather tough. I did know my Top 2 right away. Super Mario RPG is my favorite Mario game. It's one game I've played for many years, and I pretty much know a lot about that game. It was my first Let's Play. Kirby Super Star is my favorite Kirby game of all the ones I currently have. It's the one I know about the most, and it was my second Let's Play. Since I like lot's of games, the other three were hard to think of, so I just thought of some good ones. I apologize if that was a lame explanation.

Gold, I think you missed the part where each game has to be a different genre. Four of the games you listed are platformers. =P

Anyway, my list are as follows, in mostly random order.

Banjo-Kazooie (Platformer)
Final Fantasy IV (RPG)
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (Racing)
Tetris Attack (Puzzle)
TimeSpitters: Future Perfect (First-Person Shooter)

Banjo-Kazooie is my favorite game of all time, so of course it'd win the Platformer spot by default. I've played Final Fantasy IV more than any other RPG, and it holds a lot of nostalgia for me. Mario Kart Double Dash is a fun, frantic, and very arcadey racing game (wish MKWii had left the same impact). Tetris Attack is on the list 'cause I guess I kinda need a puzzle game in there, and Tetris Attack is fun. And TimeSplitters 3 has a fun(ny) story mode, a crapton of optional stuff, and a level editor.

Crystal Warriors (Game Gear) - Tactical RPG
Gravitar (Atari 2600) - Arcade Shooter
Starmaster (Atari 2600) - First person look-out-the-cockpit strategy shooter
Star Wars Battlefront & Battlefront 2 (PS2) - Action Shooter/Light Saber Fest
RPG Maker 3 (PS2) - RPG

Crystal Warriors is the best tactical strategy RPG, easily beating Shining Force and any other tactical game I've tried. I have played it through over 50 times (probably more than that) since discovering it in 1992.

Gravitar is a thrust-and-don't-crash game similar to classic Lunar Lander but with an enemy presence on the landscape to shoot at while trying not to crash. Challenging levels and simple, addictive game-play. One of my most memorable gaming experiences was scoring a million points on Gravitar.

Another most memorable gaming experience was beating the par scores on Starmaster. It's an Activision game, so there were par scores you could attain and then take a picture of the TV screen and send it in for a special patch (sort of like a trophy). My achievement was a couple decades too late for that but none the less thrilling. Beating the par score for the extremely difficult fourth level was a thrilling moment that easily eclipses most of my other gaming experiences.

Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefront 2 are probably my two most-played games of all time (excluding RPG Maker 3). No matter how good something else is, I've spent more hours slaughtering clones, beating up the Empire, and capturing command posts.

Well here are my top 5 video games

1) Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (action/adventure)
2) Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (RPG)
3) Super Mario RPG (RPG)
4) Donkey Kong Country (Platforming)
5) Mario Party 3 (Party)

I know i picked two rpg games, but to be honest, these are mainly my favorite games of all time.

Skyward Sword was, in my opinion, one of the best zelda games made in history, next to ocarina of time.

Paper Mario TTYD was my favorite of all the Paper Mario series, i enjoyed the other two Paper Mario games, i just really enjoyed playing this game much more.

Super Mario RPG is indeed a classic game of the ages to play. Back then, i would say this was the best rpg game around back then in the old days and now today.

Donkey Kong Country was a classic game to play with Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong. I think this was more fun back then and seemed pretty easy of the three as well.

Mario Party 3 was the best of all the Mario Party games. Just cause they added duel boards, partners to use in the duels, game guy mini games made getting coins a lot more interesting, also getting the items too were pretty awesome. The boards with action time were a new thing. To be honest, i am a Mario Party fanatic and i hope you all are or at least played some Mario Party games. The Mario Party series was the thing to get my LP's going since March 2011 when i started. But these are my top five video games

Hmm.. this will be though since I'm a big RPG fan... let's see

Suikoden 2 - RPG
Mendel Palace - Action/Puzzle
Super Smash Bros Melee - Fighting
Phantasy Star Online Actio RPG
Wario's Woods: Puzzle

I hope this acceptable lol having 2 pairs of similar genres.
I'm a very big RPG fan, and if I could have it my way, Final Fantasy Tactics and Skies of Arcadia would have been up there too, but the vast ammount of playable characters along with plenty of mini games made me pick Suikoden 2 over it. Mendel Palace is an obscure little NES title that I always hoped was ported to a newer console. Very fun and being able to play coop was awesome (specially since I had to fight with 2 other siblings to play. Coop meant less fights)
I'm also a huge Smash fan, and while I do liked Brawl, I feel like the improvements from the original to Melee were more wow worthy.
PSO was my first MMO game. I only stopped playing it because my DC died and never found a modem to play the GC version online which sucked. Really looking forward for PSO2 now XD
And finally, Wario's Wood for the Snes is probably the first puzzle I made absolutely sure to beat every mode in every possible way. I miss that game.

1. Star Ocean: The Second Story (RPG)
2. Borderlands (FPS)
3. Crash Team Racing (Racing)
4. Tetris Plus (Puzzle and THE best Tetris of all time)
5. Torneko: The Last Hope (Rougelike Dungeon Crawler)

SO:TSS is my favorite game. I once spent countless hours maxing the proficiency of every Killer Move and every spell for my party. If you played the game, that should tell you how much I enjoy this game.

Borderlands is a wonderful fps where you get exp. for killing enemies, has a huge loot factor, is a blast multiplayer, but is rather bland in story and missions. Oh, it is also hilarious and run on sentences.

Crash Team Racing is the best kart racer I have played to date. It perfected the genre Nintendo started on SNES with Mario Kart. Although, it could use an update to include online multiplayer big battle arenas. It had two poor sequels.

Tetris Plus is the perfect Tetris game. It has single player mode that two players can play simultaneously yet independent of each other. Out of the box, this is perfect for couch side races. It also has versus mode and classic mode. Tetris Plus even had a level creator so you could make your own challenge levels.

Torneko: The Last Hope was a sequel to the Dragon Quest IV spinoff, which was also a rougelike dungeon crawler, staring Torneko the recurring merchant npc from the DQ series. It also had a sequel but only T:TLH was released outside of Japan. You play as Torneko in search of wealth and treasure, fighting off any monsters in your path. Each time you enter one of the random dungeons, Torneko is back to level one and must fight to earn experience and level up so that he is strong enough to go deeper and deeper into the dungeon looking gold and treasure.

Honorable Mentions (IE: cheating)
1b. Bombastic (Puzzle)
2b. Portal 2 (FPS)
3b. Pokemon Red (monster trainer)
4b. Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (action adventure)
5b. Harvest Moon: GB (farming simulator)

Dray, what did you expect? Besides, when it comes to lists like this, It's hard for me to choose 5. (I knew my Top 2 by heart) And FYI: How would I supposed to know what games are considered platformers?

FFVI(FFIII US) - RPG
Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse - Disney/Cartoon-based Game(there were a ton of em way back when!)
Gitaroo Man - Rhythm Game
Donkey Kong Country - Platformer
Perfect Dark - FPS

I wanted to add a unique genre, one I'd been getting back into more. Disney-based games, as well as cartoon games in general were a sight to behold in the 80s and 90s. :) This one just made an impression on me. I guess I can't place why exactly, but that game was most always in my Sega Genesis.

As for everything else:
FFVI: I couldn't NOT pick it. Every time I critically think on the whole favorite RPG question, my brain plays a game of pinball between Lufia II, Earthbound, and FFVI. Honestly, FFVI is just always going to be the most special to me. It had a solid impact on me as a kid, I did fan art for a school project with it in 3rd grade, was my first real RPG I actually played instead of watching someone else do so. What makes it perfect for me, is that everything is there. Solid gameplay, story, and especially the art design. That game is still just gorgeous. People want their tilesets to be like FFVI's still. That's saying something. I also loved that while Squeenix is pinning Terra as the title character now... there wasn't really a true main character like other FF games at the time. Everyone's story mattered. People theorized rabidly on who the heck Gogo was, which still piques my interest(Daryl?). But lastly, the shared character options really enabled a healthy narrative helping to the different parties, especially during the first true split near the raft. Especially interesting to me every time I do that is Locke's scenario. Just the characterization of Celes in that chapter astounds. The entire World of Ruin is amazing. For once, you really didn't get there in time before the world was already messed up. This will be the longest summary, since I had such a HARD TIME picking an RPG.

Gitaroo Man: Rhythm games get a lot of flack, but I recommend this game to anyone(it's on the PS2, but there is a PSP port floating around on the cheap). You play as U-1, a pretty put-upon dude until your dog gives you this guitar transformation thing. Now you get to fight giant demons on trains, UFOs, robot sharks, and more! With... GITAROO POWER! It has a delightful little story going on throughout, just don't expect many of your adversaries to make sense. The tunes keep me coming back.
Here's an example:

Donkey Kong Country: Still my favorite platformer really. Yes, I got stuck as all get out in snow world, but I don't begrudge my test-taking-like performance problems there.:P I still just love the atmosphere, art design, music, and controls. Very awesome.

Perfect Dark: The... "perfect" FPS. Goldeneye 007 engine taken, polished, and put in a neat little original-property package. I may suck at certain parts, but I still have a great time with this game even today. Shame the sequel sucked.

Earthbound - RPG
Super Metroid - Adventure
Sonic 3 and Knuckles - Platformer
Tetris Attack - Puzzle
Resident Evil 2 - Horror

My list is pretty straight-forward and simple. It's some of the best games of all time in a bundle.

Tales of Vesperia - RPG
Skyward Sword - Action/Adventure
Left 4 Dead - FPS
Deadly Premonition - Horror
Wario's Woods - Puzzle

Tales of Vesperia has been the game I talk about a lot and revere, but with just cause. I enjoy the characters and how the plot is a lot darker than previous entries in the series. Not that dark is better, but to see it deviate from what has been done in the past and done well is refreshing. Plus it has one of the greatest main characters in Yuri Lowell.

Skyward Sword is what I figured to be the best Zelda made yet. I used to like TP the most, but SS is leaps and bounds better. While the waggle may get annoying at times, the execution of the plot is amazing. However, some of the puzzles are a bit difficult and sometimes irritating. I still find this one as my top game of this genre.

Left 4 Dead was different from most FPS games. Games like Halo and CoD were all about gunning down enemies on your own. Left 4 Dead emphasized the use of teamwork in order to survive and complete the campaigns. I liked how they did it in the first installment, plus the cast of characters is lovable. The only reason I don't play Left 4 Dead much anymore is the lack of players on VS, and the amount of cheating/mods that are being used in VS.

Deadly Premonition is not even close to being the best game in this genre from a gameplay perspective. Even then story is a bit f*cked. However, I chose this as my top game of the horror genre because, well... it's very endearing. The dialogue can really get ridiculous in the game, and the execution of music and character reactions were sometimes weird or inappropriate. However, this is kind of the reason why I love it. It's a game that is pretty bad, but it can easily win you over.

Wario's Woods is a puzzle game that I remember playing back when I lived in north Texas when I was little. It's like many other puzzle games that have come out, but I like how it had the little character sprites on screen. It's pretty challenging, and I find it more difficult than Tetris Attack. If you watched my LP, it probably doesn't look difficult, but it's all about trying to set yourself up while the bombs and monsters appear faster and faster with each level.
