I think I'm missing something here. Lightsabers?

Besides... you act like this is the first time that there was an Empire in an RPG. To be honest, it's quit common.

Yeah, I know. Specially in FF. They've had those since FF2 (not FF4).
But that's exactly why it's lame... No one can take any more of the evil-empire-invading-the-characters'-country theme anymore. I least I could go with something more original ^^

And hey, is it just me or the storytelling is kinda... I dunno... weird. It's a little too fast paced at times, a sometimes counfusing, and sometimes it feels something is lacking there. I dunno. Can't explain it =P

Why not invade the empire?

Just because the antagonist in star wars is called the empire and the antagonists in FF is the empire doesn't mean they copied it.

Funny, doesn't say anything about star wars in there... Nor does it about Final Fantasy. Therefore, it's arguable to say that either one is ripping off the other.

And the only reason the RPG is hard to keep up with is because we have been watered down with slow storylines like Dragon Quest 8. A good example of this would be Xenogears. THAT was a great storyline. Confusing as hell... but worth taking the time to understand.

And I still don't understand where you are getting lightsabers and junk. The battle flowed more like .Hack than anything else.

I dunno, I might be just an idiot... but at least I would be willing to admit it. ^_^

I don't mind the empire story. It's the love stories that are getting annoying to me. I haven't played FF12 in months, but from what I can see, there's no major love story in it (other than Ashe's remorse for her killed husband), and that's good news to me. Although the moment those two start kissing and hugging in a spring with lyrical song, I'm gonna... Well, I probably won't do anything. But I won't like it.

it's not that the story is told in a fast pace. My problem is that it is told in a fast pace but there is no emphasis given to it. As if the game was more about gameplay than actual plot.

Which, in a FF, however amusing the gameplay might be, will NEVAH be true. And if Square starts to fall in the pretty-graphics-nice-gameplay-no-clucking-story trap, FF is doomed.

And I too don't see any lightsabers. I think Kitty meant the design and style of the blue and light threads that indicate targets in-battle. ^^

But never the less. I though the storyline was still quite well done. Most of the detailed stuff was narrarated in story format. And even the in game story was still pretty well done. Like [spoiler]when Dalmasca was taking over rabanastre and the campaine Vayne Solidor was running, all the time while he plotted aginst his father and his yonger borther, Larsa was tried for piece behind Vayne's back with Al-Sid and your party. All this was going on while the Marquis was factioning a rebelion to try and stand up to the Dalmascan Empire. This happens while your party unravels the truth of the Epsers and the stones that Ashe's ancestors left behind many years before hand.[/spoiler]

I mean, that doesn't seem too shabby to me...

I'm afraid to mouseover that spoiler 'cause I'm still pretty early in the game (namely, just after [spoiler]getting that ugly Basch to join you and still escaping the bloody mine-like dungeon[/spoiler]). So meh, I can't answer =P

Strangely enough, for two days I dumped FF12 in favor of Wild Arms. =D
Dunno, FF12's story just doesn't amuse me. I don't feel like knowing what happens next... at all. And that even makes me kinda sad... as much fun as beating wolves and cockatrices to death can be =P

I just kind of...stopped playing when the wii came out.

So did I when I FINALLY got Xbox Live in my apt. As soon as I get halo outta my system and finish DQ8 I plan on getting back to FFXII.

Oh boy, I totally will debate the pros and cons of FF12 and DQ8.... But I'd probably end up stepping on toes.

Feel free to make a toe-stepping topic for it if you want. Aside from the usual "that's just how Dragon Quest is" response, I admit DQ8 does have its flaws.

Asche is hotter than Fran.

Fran's a clucking bunny, for crying out loud. Nothing with those ears can be hot. And she's like too tall and slender.

A play boy Bunny she is.. Just like the village she comes from. And that I don't understand.

lol, Gnasher... I can't say I care. The way she carries herself is quite... appealing.

And the ears are a little distracting... but damnit, she's still hot.

The plot's total yuck. Predictable. Cliche'. Dumb. I hate it. If it was my roommate I would tell it to move out. The game's pretty okay I guess; I do like the new battle system, but it has its quirks. Also the tiny references to FF Tactics like the weapons, the Serpentarius thing and th locations from tactics advance, along with the same little icons are a nice touch. I hate Final Fantasy, but pretending to unbiased, it's pretty good.

Ashe = Hawt

I played the demo when I got Dragon Quest. It was awesome. The summon spell's visual looked breathtaking. I want it, and also I think Square Enix tried hard to make this game, and alot of fans think so too

I could go on all day, but I'll just sum up my feelings.

This game makes me never want to play any new Final Fantasy releases ever again. Period.

You just made me miss my double-staff wielding white mage from FF5 SO MUCH

Back on topic. I spent 4 days away from the videogame, and after I returned, haven't touched the game yet.
In other words: it's not as good as I was expecting, really. Despite being an excellent game, the story just doesn't catch me.
