About an hour ago, this game vexed me....vexed me to the bottom of my core, but in a good way.

I was fighting my THIRD battle with Bowser growing into a Giant, and I just couldn't seem to time my fire (I had to blow into the speaker) to destroy this thing. I swear, I must have turned off the system 3 or 4 times before I finally kicked the boss's ass. I mean, I know you have retry clocks to use in case you fail a mission, but I've been trying to spare them A LOT.

Still loving this game, though.

I'm nearing the end of the game. Also, I bought the Mario and Luigi 3 Strategy guide. :P

Diagnosis: These stronger bosses and enemies really give you a run for your money (they certainly weren't pushovers for me and I'm a train-a-holic), so it's very, very important that your party (and Bowser) are leveled up to a comfortable level.

Both the Mario Bros. and Bowser have new special attacks as well, and I have greatly benefited from using them. One note:

These special attacks can use up a grip of SP, and luckily, you can either find or retrieve special charms that can cut that SP up to 50 percent! However, for the latter, you won't be able to get it until where I am now, and I've been playing the game for nearly 23 hours

Dray, I swear on my life, this game is tons better than Partners in Time, even when I had times in the game where I wanted to throw my DS against the wall (due to a stupid mistake, or really hard parts). Please, please, please give this game a chance.

So, I was just able to purchase badges in mine, I got the Excelent Badge for Luigi and the Bonus Badge for Mario. It gives me a .5 x muliplier for exp and .2 for coins... I'm probably going to use that for the rest of the game. It was really awesome when I was able to use it once in a boss fight and got 1500 exp instead of 1000. I haven't managed to use it twice in a boss fight yet, but I'm hoping it stacks.

I merged the Excellent Badge with another badge, and when that happens, basically for every "Excellent" attack I do, when the meter is full, Mario and Luigi regain half their health. I think I'll keep it there. I'm pretty leveled up anyway. :)

Alright, I get it, it's good. I'll buy it somewhere down the line. :P

I actually like it better than the first two, so if you liked the first one, you'll like this one. It's okay, just not a god-send.

Of course not. It'd take a Square to make a godsend Mario RPG.

AMEN. But who knows how much it would differ with Enix having a hand in it too, if it ever were to be made. If it took on some Dragon Quest type qualities, it would fail pretty easily.

Anyway in M&L3
I just finished pieces together Bowser's memories and got the second Cure thing. So far, I have the best armor (for ranking up to shine) and the shoes that heal 5% HP every attack. Durring dungeon crawling I usually have the EXP shoes and Coin shoes for extra of those whenever I can manage a fight without taking damage. In boss fights, I'l switch those out for something more suitable.

As for badges, I wanted to see if I could use the EXP and Coin multiplier more than once... you can't. So I fill up the badge bar once with the bonus badge and then switch to the HP restore imediately afterwards... I get some really awesome EXP and can sometimes level up twice from one boss fight. Speaking of, the Mario and Luigi clones was a very interesting fight, I liked it.

I beat the game 10 mins ago. Warning, spoilers below:

The final boss was quite a challenge, even at the levels I currently were (Bros were level 39, and Bowser: 35). I figured out what I had to do to beat the final boss once the battle progressed (both Bowser and the Bros are needed; The Bros attacks: I need more practice on them because I kept using the ones I was accustomed to. Otherwise, I'd still be playing the game. Now, I didn't get every powerful thing to boost my characters, but I had some ample gear. What I didn't know is that when you beat the game, a "narrator" will tell you your rank. I assumed that the Bros and Bowser had achieved the highest rank they could muster...I was wrong. Each of theme had a "dark spot" next to the current rank they were, meaning that I was not at my highest rank. The narrator said he was "disappointed" and that I can try again. Yeah, sure. Let me savor the fact that two weeks after purchasing this game, I actually beat it, unlike Partners in Time, a game I did not complete.

I have just finished the game... and I don't know about you, Bon, but my levels were 33 on the bros and 28 on bowser, and I made it through in two rounds with the core and never healed but once with my badge (I used one rock candy on bowser though). I spammed Bowsers Bob-omb move and the bro's yahoo barrels.

Btw, I thought the ending was just great. I mean, it was very simple but it didn't have to be all too elaborate. But honestly, it was one of the best endings I've seen in a RPG in a long time. And about the whole "YOU FAIL, DO IT AGAIN." I really don't see it that way. I see it as something to strive for next time I play. In fact, they didn't even word it negetively... it was just a little note to say, "Hey, there's more to do in this game." Nothing wrong with a little replay value, you know?

Overall, I am really glad to have picked this up. One of the best non-remake, non-port, handheld RPGs I've played in a long time.

^Amen to that, brother.

I never used that Bob-omb move. I relied on the Block-dog attack. :) I got all the Blitties.

I was missing two of them and I never went back for them. The bob-omb attack was doing well over 300 every time I used it (I think it was around 388 if I got a few critical hits in).

Ok, so I just beat the game a little bit ago, and I have one big complaint.

Why did they make the special attacks so useless? I never used any of Bowser's, because I was able to do up to 300 damage with a single punch, and I never had the need to use M & L's, I only used a single bro move in the entire game besides the one to shake the ground, and that was to deal the final blow to the final boss.

That aside, I really enjoyed the game.

Final levels: M&L: 35, Bowser: 32

Special attacks aren't super-required in order to defeat a boss in a respectable time, anymore? Yay! Although I'm not sure I like the idea that they're useless altogether. Sounds like I may be choosing the special stat over and over for my level bonuses.

I wasn't as leveld as Myoky, I still used them rather heavily. But no, I don't think they are super-required, so to speak.

Kinda off subject, but I beat Partners in Time 10 mins. ago. I find it the least enjoyable out of the three titles, however, but if I ever wanted to kill time, I'd play it again.

I could think of so many games better to kill time with.

So what you think of the mountain-volcano-spaceship-toadtown-starhill combination of FIVE FREAKIN' DUNGEONS IN A ROW, the insistant need to spam Bros. Items in every boss, the final dungeon that makes Bowser's Castle in Paper Mario look short, and the final boss that refuses to let you damage her while the least epic theme for a final battle ever played in the background?

I did not like spamming bros. items to defeat the bosses (However, I do attribute the use of bros. items for assisting in bulking up my older and younger bros.)

I really hated going through those mazes with the younger bros. because I always kept falling and having to start the hell over numerous times. Not even Gamefaqs could come up with a decent strategy of getting through that thing.

Final dungeon was short, wasn't it? Compared to all the exploring I did in the other areas before, at least. The final Shroob was...not a pushover, I'll admit. I used either Trampolines or Mix Flowers to kick her ass, nothing else. Hey, at least I can say I actually beat it. I had bought the game 2 and a half years ago...
