Hmmm .... Well, that's all well and good, ... but I certainly wouldn't try to fight Regenerators or Hunters in the dark, Myoky. *cringe*

... Actually, that's something about Resident Evil that's "video game bull" -> those huge guys carrying the chainguns and wearing the stupid berets at the end of Resident Evil 4. They don't even stumble back from Magnum shots sometimes, so you just inevitably get mowed over by their gunfire. Not right, I tell you!

From what I've read, Umbrella Chronicles is supposed to be very good, even for an 'on rails shooter'.

I think it'll be good for the fact the everything in the game is destructible, and you can make the game harder by shooting out the lights and fighting zombies in the dark.

Let's think about this. Taking Resident Evil from what it is to a Rail Shooter you lose: Exploration, puzzle sloving, dodging and or retreating from battle, the option to backtrack, the ability to use items when you so chose (you have to shoot green herbs, and you use them right then, you can ration your items), and just lose a general feel of playing a RE title.

Just so things can be... more destructible and can shoot out lights?

Sounds like a bum deal to me

meh, you're supposed to be able to go anywhere you want, but they may have changed that. And I'd like it more if the building you were in didn't have weird looking crests for locks? I mean what kind of modern police station would locks that were crests shaped as lions, ect. Also, what kind of police station would have a bookshelf pushing puzzle to get said crest?

They should fix that, no modern building is going to contain natural puzzles.

I think that's a bit over analyzing the locked doors a bit. That's not something that would directly affect the game as a hole, so to say it needs "Fixing" may be a bit more steep than necessary. But if you do want to be picky about it, it's cool. Because Umbrella chronicles doesn't look like you'll be controlling much at all besides what you can shoot. So that means no bookshelf puzzles and oddly shapped crests to unlock doors. You just kind of uncontrolably walk through it all in a very linear format. (Which I would definately call 'Video Game BULL')

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umbrella_Chronicles

Quote:
In 2006, Capcom revealed the game as one that would combine the series' trademarks along with "the revolutionary control system of the Wii". The April 2007 issue of Famitsu revealed that the game would be an on-rails shooter.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-rails_shooter

Quote:
Rail shooters or on-rails shooters are a sub-genre of shoot 'em ups. In a rail shooter the player control is limited to directing where to fire a virtual gun; the player does not have direct control over the path their avatar takes from the start to the end...

I might dare say that the only reason it's going to strip everything you could do in Resident Evil and limit it to just shooting would be simply to better utilize the Wiimote... there trying to sell it off with the "zapper" as well... which isn't a gun... but a bracket made of plastic to hold your wiimote in a possition looks something like a gun.

Meh...while I can say that I'll miss most of the usual RE stuff...I can't say that I'm gonna hate this. I love playing on-rails with friends...it's a great past time (but honestly if this can't be 2 player I don't see the point.) Meh, the zapper is ok...but it's just another way for them to make money.

The crests added to the overall surreal feel of the games. Not every game should be as realistic as possible.

As a matter of fact, it would be video game bull if every franchise lost their imagination to appeal to the masses.

Video games suck. As does a lot of the grammar in the posts in this thread.

Truthfully, though, I don't have a real answer to the question. I just am getting older, and am losing faith in the ability of video games to entertain me for any length of time anymore.

How about a book? A good game is just a book that you can watch at the same time as read..and one where your imagination is interacting instead of just imagining.

I don't quite agree with perversion but I used to watch films and movies a lot. I almost never watch them now because I'd rather play games. Maybe at some point, music or people will be enough to keep me entertained/using my imagination and video games will be out of the picture.

I still love games, and expect to always be a fan akin to what you are saying they can give you, but I doubt I'll ever be as amazed at games as the first time that I player my first survival horror game (Resident Evil 2). We'll see.

Resident Evil 2 was the first survival horror game you ever played, Bo? That was mine, too. ^_^

.... I ran into something that I thought to be "video game bull" just today (although I never noticed it before) as I was playing Chrono Cross.
I find Chrono Cross to generally be an easy RPG, ... and yet one of the few (read: very) difficult bosses in the game has no save point right before him. The huge-statured swordsman known as Garai at the Isle of the Damned forces you to repeat the dungeon if you lose to him, and he can slay Lynx or anyone else in practically just one attack! Ugh!

Dude, he was supposed to be a human, and he's like almost 3 meters tall!
There's this scene that scares the hell out of me, in one of Radius' flashbacks: you see Radius and Garai walking down a path casually, talking casually, and you see the casual Radius... and a 3m-tall, black-armored, sword-wielding monster following...

But when you beat Garai, you were pretty well off. Not dead characters and such. When you fought Miguel in the Dead see.... THAT'S a diffrent story. All but Lynx dead, and he was one attack away from falling, himself.

Strange, I had a rather easy time with Miguel.
I mean, not easy, but certainly not hard. One of those boring boss battles, in which you just have to keep repeating the same tactics until the boss is defeated.
I certainly had all my characters alive and well by the end...

Are you kidding? He had strong white elements and would cast Turn Black on you before using them. Those always did major damange unless he used a lesser element.

That light sword he used usually killed instantly.

If I remember correctly, I went Lynx - Gobryc - Karsh on him... I remember reading somewhere that he was the 'second hardest boss of the game' or something like that, and I thought, 'WTF?'
Heh, but Dario was another story.

Midnight club 2
Granted the whole game is nothing but this, but I hated how you could race perfectly and then crash once at the end and out of nowhere comes another car to win the race but if you did OK but were in second or third, you could boost at just the right time to dramatically win at the end. It was forced climactic melodrama.
