Final Fantasy Chronicles = Final Fantasy IV + Chrono Trigger

Good stuff...

FFIV was gooooood.
One of the first electronic RPGs to feature an anti-hero as protagonist. The only downside is that he loses the 'anti-hero' status somewhere in the game... and becomes the usual stereotypical 'hero'. Blah.
Come on, we want Dark Knight Cecil 'til the end!

The music quality means nothing to me. It will sound better with headphones

I personally would rather listen to Aeris' Theme instead of FF6's World Map Theme.

Why are you comparing a theme that's usually played at more than one emotional point to a theme that's just plays on the world map? No, if you're gonna make comparisons like that, compare FF7's world map theme with FF6's, or compare Aeris's theme with one of FF6's many emotional tunes.

True that a lot of GBA games didn't have a lot of effort put into their soundtracks. Or at least the ones I've played. If you want quality, though, the Golden Sun games have really well-done music. The Donkey Kong Country ports also hold up really well in the musical department. (Well, I assume. I only played the first port.) And most of the Final Fantasy ports have well-done music. True that that may be in part that the music has been upgraded from some pretty old games, but FFI&II Advance's music is ported from the fantastic-sounding Final Fantasy Origins and it held up pretty well.

Of course, whether or not you like the songs is another discussion.

Compared to using GBA's tiny speaker, yes. This is going through your probably better computer speakers. And my computer speakers happens to be a sterio. I've played GBA games through sterio speakers before, and it has no different effect over playing through headphones. Well, unless your speakers are outputting an emphisas on bass or something like that, in which case it'll sound a bit better. Mine are.

BTW, I can apparently rip the opening theme from the soundtrack CD of FF6. Is there anything wrong with uploading it here for people to listen to and make comparisons with the music in the video?

I mentioned the FF6 World Map theme because I think that's one of the most remarkable and beautiful songs of the game. It's my reference.

Huh. Guess it really is possible to compare apples to oranges, if you like them both enough.

Anyway, since nobody said anything was wrong with it, here's the opening theme from the SNES game, including title screen, intro, and opening credits. Please note that playing this on my PC for some reason produces some light static crackles. I don't know if the same will happen to anybody else. In fact it may not play on here at all. Won't for me. But then I expected it to pop up as a download, not as a direct-feed music file.

EDIT: Nevermind. I don't know if the file works for anybody here, but it probably doesn't if it doesn't work for me. In any case, I found a file of it that doesn't include crackling sound:

This person has obviously never played FF VI before... How could you possibly say the music means nothing?!

Draygone, now play for 2 minutes and just go out in the world map (World of Balance, I mean). It's a variation of the last part of the music you posted. IMHO, the best one. ^^

I think one of the best pieces of music would be the overworld music for FF7 and the ending credits for FF9.

I don't like the overworld of FF7 at all.

Anyone heard the score from Chrono Cross? Specially 'Radical Dreamers - Unstolen Gem', 'Magical Dreamers - Wind, Stars and Waves' and 'Time's Scar'. Genius stuff.

Of course I have. I'm a huge CT fan. I've actually played through Radical Dreamers... which is a prime example of what a text based adventure should be. Anyway, I think you'll like this, Gnasher.

I had goosebumps through the whole thing.

btw... I know this topic has gone drastically off... but I like it none the less.

Unfortunately, Chrono Cross bored me too much. I wanted to like it, and I want to try playing it again sometime. At the very least, it has my favorite video game pre-title opening.

That opening is great =)

But the game itself isn't for everyone, you're right. I myself like to have thousands of playable characters and I can cope with the magic system, but it's understandable that some people dislike it.

Which, by RPG standards, means 'thousands' :D
Only game I can think of with that many characters is Suikoden, with 108 (but I never played it).

You are correct, sir.

In fact... I think pretty much every suikoden game had just around 108 ppl.

I don't think I got far enough for me to notice the large cast. No, the furthest I got was after Lynx's mansion, and that's only a few hours into the game. I'm not sure what part of it bored me, but I'm sure the battle system was part of the problem. I didn't like only being able to use each spell once per battle. Well, there were those consumable spells, but once those are used up, they're gone, and I needed to heal a lot. Plus I don't really like it when games force me to build my own equipment.

Speaking of Chrono Trigger, I'm definately starting to want to play it again. I found a site with the SNES music, and it doesn't seem all that differnt than the PS1 version's (though I haven't played it in a while). I'm a little worried that the ending theme will be out of sync due to longer load times, though. Though maybe the timing of the music isn't as important as it is in FF6's ending.
