I've met and exceeded my challenge!

Mario L13
Equipment: Lazy Shell, Hero Shirt, Attack Scarf (woo, 39 jumps in a row)

Geno L14
Equipment: Star Gun, Star Cape, Safety Ring

Toadstool L14
Equipment: Frying Pan, Royal Dress, Safety Badge

Items:
5 Max Mushrooms (didn't use any)
4 Royal Syrups (didn't use any)
6 Pick Me Ups
2 Red Essences
5 KerokeroColas
6 Rock Candies (to deal with those pesky shysters the fish statue creates)
1 Crystalline (to boost my party's defense at the start)

I might've got lucky, though. Geno's Geno Boost was very important in surviving, and Smithy only used Shredder (the attack that destroys stat boosts) once the entire battle, and Wizard Smithy didn't do any double-attacks. Smithy wasn't really all that difficult so long as I kept myself at max health, though that didn't stop my heart from pounding as I got closer to his defeat. Last time that happened when fighting Smithy was when I wasn't good at SMRPG.

The sad thing about this is, aside from perhaps trying again without the Lazy Shell, this pretty much illiminates all new challenge from SMRPG for me. Although I didn't go after Culex or Jinx, but I don't feel like dealing with them.

Nice job Dray!

Is that your usual end game party? It's thrty I same party I use.

I think you should go for atleast Jinx. He's not that hard and as long as you power is high you can defeat him easily.(And using Lazy Shell makes it all the more easier.)

you can make it to the end of most levels in 20 seconds. If you use this fact to get the Warp whistles, and use them as soon as you have 2, you should be able to make it to world 8 in under 2-2 1/2 minutes. after the scrolling levels its just amatter of RUN RUN RUN!

However, adding it up you are correct. 6 minutes may be a tad short. would 10 minutes sound more feasble?

But here is somthing i know you peeps can do. Soul Blade: pick a character, and then beat the game with him/her in arcade mode in under 6min 30sec

INTARWEB TRIVIA

There's been a video floating around for years of an 11 minute clear of the whole game, and NO ONE completely believes even the VIDEO. Unless your run is more perfect than a completely perfect run, you can't beat 10 minutes.

Also, Dray, that's pretty impressive. I might try that.

Ah yes... the SMB3 video.

And no, that wasn't skill. It's a speed run using an emulator. There are to key things you not. When you play the emulator you can slow down th frames per second, which slow down the time. And there's the more popluar save states, which save exactly the moment you are on. Most new emulators have a record funtion.

But here's the trick: The recorder only records from the most previous load state. So if you mess up and load state and pull off whatever you missed, then the recording would only record you making it. Also, if you used the lowered frame rate, the playback of the recording would play at standard speed.

So those levels when he bounced off of 120 cannon balls was due not to skill, but using save states and slowdowns.

And though it isn't skill... it's sure as hell fun to watch from time to time.

My usual end party...actually I'm not sure. I know that Geno usually isn't a first choice. But he was definately necessary for survival this time.

There isn't much reason to go after Jynx. He's got some powerful attacks and gives up a nice item if you win, but what's the point if I already beat the game? Culex would definately be more of a challenge, since I'd be dealing with 14,000 HP overall and an enemy party of five with some powerful attacks. But I'm betting I'm not at a high enough level to deal with so many powerful attacks at once, as even with Geno Boost all the powerful attacks can take off more than half my party's HP in one hit, and I really don't feel like going out to power-level.

Anyway, in case anybody's wondering, I pretty much skipped any and all non-story battles that didn't earn me a special item (I did fight Croco's bandit friends for Flower Tabs, for example), except for using the super stars in Bandit's Way and Mole Mountain. In Bowser's Keep, I only went through the battle-filled door that lead to Geno's best weapon, and ignored the door that led to Bowser's weapon.

That's what I was getting at. I don't think anyone can beat that.

You are correct, my friend.

The best time so far is exactly 10:35.55 by Jean-François Durocher (aka. Genisto).

Refrence

(btw, that site lets you download all their tool-assisted movies in AVI and the original file to be ran by the emulator. Which the emulator verison is super tiny. About 4 hours of video is like a few meg.)

Apologies for the year-old bump, but I got that video line-in for my computer for Christmas this year, and decided it high time to show my low-level battle against Smithy. (Video lasted 26 minutes, so I needed to split it into three to allow upload on YT.)
